Renault Nissan alliance: 1.92 lakh cars every year in India

Renault-Nissan says it has been manufacturing an average of over 1,92,000 cars every year, equivalent to one car produced every 3 minutes. A total of 20 models of cars and SUVs have been built at the Chennai plant so far for both domestic and export markets.

As far as exports go, both brands have jointly dispatched more than 1.15 million vehicles from Chennai's Kamarajar Port Ltd (formerly Ennore Port Ltd.) to more than 108 key markets in the Middle East, Europe, Latin America, New Zealand, Australia, South-East Asia, SAARC countries, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Six new Renault-Nissan models incoming

Renault and Nissan are gearing up to launch six new models, three each for both brands, as announced under the Alliance investment plan a few months ago. Earlier this year, the Renault-Nissan Alliance announced an investment of USD 600 million (roughly Rs 4,913 crore) in India to introduce new products and technologies, and boost production and R&D activities.

The Alliance's future focus includes the production of six new vehicles, including two EVs that will be manufactured in India. Both brands will also spend on heavily localising the advanced CMF-B modular platform for India, which will be the base for some of the upcoming Renault-Nissan models, including the all-new Duster

Nissan invests in Renault's Ampere EV brand

Overseas, Nissan has announced that it will invest EUR 600 million (roughly Rs 5,471 crore) into Renault’s Ampere EV company, as the two major carmakers finalise a new, more equitable Alliance partnership. This investment into the EV and software firm “complements and strengthens Nissan’s ongoing electric push in Europe”, said Nissan global CEO Makoto Uchida. It will deliver “numerous synergies, including cost efficiencies, regulatory compliance and a broader range of EV products and powertrains," he added.
