I am planning to buy my first EV with a budget of around Rs. 25 lakh. Currently driving a Tata Nexon Petrol. I am confused between the MG Hector Tomahawk EV (on-road Rs. 24.7 lakh) and the Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Two 70 kWh (on-road Rs. 26.2 lakh, which may come close to Rs. 25 lakh with festive discounts). I like the Hector Tomahawk EV's minimalist interior and single-screen layout, which feels sufficient for my needs. However, the XEV 9e has much better road presence and looks more premium. I also prefer a clean dashboard over the XEV 9e's triple-screen setup. My priorities are reliability, family comfort, long-term ownership, daily usability, and value for money. I'm based in Hyderabad, and the MG showroom/service centre is very close to my home, which is a plus. Which one would you recommend and why?

It seems like you're leaning towards the MG Hector Tomahawk EV. This MG car is a well-priced three-row, feature-loaded EV. Even though we haven't extensively tested the Tomahawk EV yet, given our past experience with MG offerings, they deliver healthy range and are very easy to drive, with light controls. And having the flexibility of a third row of seats is something you don't get with the Mahindra XEV 9E. On the flip side, the Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Two 70kWh will not only be more efficient, resulting in better real-world range, but it is also nicer to drive, and certainly has stronger road presence. The festive discounts only improve its value quotient. In summary, the Hector Tomahawk EV is a good product, but the XEV 9e is a future-proof and better-engineered EV.

I am planning to buy my first EV with a budget of around Rs 25 lakh. I currently drive a Tata Nexon petrol and am confused between the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, which costs around Rs 24.7 lakh on-road, and the Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Two 70kWh, which costs around Rs 26.2 lakh on-road and could come closer to Rs 25 lakh with festive discounts. I like the minimalist interior and single-screen layout of the Hector Tomahawk EV. It feels practical and has all the features I need. However, I feel the XEV 9e has better road presence and overall appeal. I generally prefer a clean, simple dashboard over the triple-screen setup in the XEV 9e. My priorities are long-term ownership, reliability and service, family comfort, daily usability and value for money. I am based in Hyderabad, and the MG showroom and service centre are very close to my home, which is a significant advantage for convenience. Which one would you recommend and why?

Go for the MG Hector Tomahawk EV, as it seems to fit your brief better. While the Tomahawk EV is a new product, MG has a proven history with EVs in India, with models such as the ZS EV, Comet and Windsor, and more recently the M9 and Cyberster. This includes aftersales and service, with its dealerships well prepared to handle EVs, which should give you peace of mind when it comes to long-term ownership. As you have noted, the Tomahawk EV has a practical cabin and a clean interior without a passenger screen. The fact that the MG showroom and service center are very close to your home is also a significant advantage for long-term ownership and convenience. The Mahindra XEV 9e is a very good product with strong road presence, but the triple-screen setup is something you are not keen on, and it adds complexity that you do not need. It's also more powerful, and though it has the longer range on paper, in real-world use the difference may be less. The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is also better value for money at around Rs 24.7 lakh on-road, and it leaves room in your budget for a higher variant or additional accessories.

Which car is better between Tomahawk and vinfast vf7

Verified
•2h

The Vinfast VF7 is sportier to drive, with stronger performance and more engaging driving dynamics. On the other hand, the Tomahawk is more comfort-oriented, with supportive seats, a spacious cabin, and the flexibility of a third row. It is also larger, yet it is more efficient than the VF7, resulting in better real-world range. As a spacious family car, the MG Hector Tomahawk EV is the better car. However, if you enjoy driving, pick the VinFast VF7.

I am confused between choosing MG Tomahawk Excite/Exclusive variants and Mahindra XEV 9S 79 kWh variant. Does the price premium really justify the upgrade? There is a price difference of approximately Rs. 3.66 lakh between MG Excite and XEV 9S, and around Rs. 1.5-2 lakh between the MG Exclusive and XEV 9S. Technically, the XEV 9S appears to have an advantage with its additional 10 kWh battery capacity, more powerful motor, higher torque and significantly better DC fast-charging capability. However, the MG offers better value in terms of pricing and, in the exclusive variant features such as ventilated seats. Does the XEV 9S's additional battery capacity, motor performance and faster charging justify paying an additional Rs. 1.5-3.66 lakh? I would like to get a few things evaluated. How noticeable is the difference in power and torque during regular city driving and highway cruising? Does the additional motor power translate into a meaningful everyday advantage? Although the XEV 9S supports much faster DC charging, how often can owners realistically access 180 kW chargers on Indian highways? Considering charger availability, infrastructure limitations and actual charging speeds, does this advantage make a significant difference to overall travel time? Does the additional 10 kWh battery translate into a substantial improvement in usable highway range, especially at 100-120 km/h? Is it worth sacrificing comfort features such as ventilated seats in the MG Exclusive to get the XEV 9S's additional battery capacity, performance and charging technology? If warranty coverage and routine service costs are broadly comparable, which vehicle offers better overall value over 5-8 years? I would appreciate a genuine, practical comparison rather than just comparing specification sheets. Ultimately, if you were spending your own money, would you choose MG Tomahawk Exclusive and save Rs. 1.5-2 lakh, or stretch the budget for Mahindra XEV 9S 79 kWh? More importantly, what tangible benefits would justify that additional investment in real-world Indian driving conditions?

We would recommend the Mahindra XEV 9S 79kWh over the MG Hector Tomahawk EV Exclusive, provided you are comfortable paying the additional Rs 1.5-2 lakh. The Mahindra offers a meaningful advantage in highway range, performance and charging speeds. In Autocar India's real-world range test, it returned 477km on the highway against 397km for the MG. Interestingly, the MG delivered better city range, at 495km against the Mahindra's 478km.The XEV 9S also gets a more powerful 286hp, 380Nm rear-wheel-drive motor, compared to the MG's 204hp, 310Nm front-wheel-drive setup. This translates into stronger acceleration, better high-speed performance and a more engaging driving experience. Its 180kW DC charging capability is another advantage over the MG's 90kW, although access to compatible high-powered chargers will determine how much time you actually save. The MG, however, makes a strong case with its lower price, spacious cabin and comfort features such as ventilated front seats in the Exclusive variant. If most of your driving is within the city, it offers better value and there is little reason to spend extra on the Mahindra. Our pick would be the Mahindra XEV 9S 79kWh if you regularly undertake highway journeys and want the additional range and performance. If your usage is predominantly urban, save the Rs 1.5–2 lakh and go for the MG Hector Tomahawk EV Exclusive.

MG Tomahawk EV or Mahindra XEV 9S Pack Two Above: which one should I choose? I’ve booked both, and I’m confused. My priorities are range, long-term ownership and driving experience. Please give me a clear recommendation.

Given that range and driving experience are your two biggest priorities, we would pick the Mahindra XEV 9S Pack Two Above 70kWh over the MG Hector Tomahawk EV.The Mahindra has a more powerful Rear Wheel Drive motor, delivering stronger performance and a more engaging driving experience. It also supports faster DC charging. In our real-world test, the larger 79kWh XEV 9S delivered an average range of 477.5km, against 446km for the MG. The MG did better in city driving, but the Mahindra had a significant advantage on the highway. The 70kWh XEV 9S has a claimed range of 600km, but its real-world range has not been established through the same test. Based on available estimates, expect around 430 - 450km.The MG is the more affordable option and offers a comfortable, spacious cabin, but the Mahindra is quicker and more engaging to drive
