The Kia Carens Clavis EV HTX 42kWh variant offers the best value for primarily city-focused users, adding features like a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, ambient lighting, and leatherette upholstery for about Rs 2.5 lakh over the HTK+. For longer or mixed use, the HTX 51.4kWh adds extra range, while the GTX variant carries a Rs 50,000 premium for cosmetic enhancements.
The Kia Carens Clavis EV Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme makes financial sense only if monthly usage is predictable and relatively low. Under the plan, the chassis is priced at Rs 12.84 lakh for the 42kWh variant versus Rs 17.99 lakh with battery included, plus a battery rental of Rs 3.3 per km. At 1,000 km per month, that equals Rs 3,300, while at 500 km it is Rs 1,650. For higher or inconsistent mileage, outright ownership is typically more cost-effective.
I am buying a new seven-seater EV and have shortlisted the MG Hector Tomahawk Exclusive and Kia Clavis SR HTX. I am confused about which one to choose. The Clavis has better build and ride quality, but it uses a smaller NMC battery and does not come with a 7.5kW charger. The MG Tomahawk is slightly larger and offers better range, although I have some concerns about its build and ride quality. I expect to drive around 2,000km a month, mainly in semi-urban Goa, with a mix of short highway and city driving. I am not planning many outstation trips. Which one would suit my usage better?
Goa, 2,000 km a month, semi-urban mix, mostly short highway and city runs, not many outstation trips, that’s a very clear brief. The MG Hector Tomahawk EV Exclusive is the better fit here. The bigger battery and better range are exactly what you want at this usage level, and the fact that you’re not doing long outstation runs means you’re not going to be pushing the car into situations where charging infrastructure becomes a headache. The Clavis SR HTX is the more polished product, but the smaller NMC battery and the lack of a 7.5kW charger are real drawbacks at 2,000 km a month. The MG’s size is also an advantage, but the Kia Carens Clavis EV actually has a better third row. The Tomahawk's ride and build quality are not as tight as the Clavis, but they’re not deal-breakers either. Overall, the MG Hector Tomahawk Exclusive offers better value for money for your usage.
I am based in Navi Mumbai and am planning to buy an electric SUV or MPV. My daily commute is around 25km, while I typically drive 200km on weekends. I currently own a 2017 Hyundai Creta 1.6 diesel manual and have test-driven the Hyundai Creta Electric, BYD eMax 7 and Kia Carens Clavis EV. With a budget of Rs 30 lakh, which 6-seater electric SUV or MPV would be suitable for long-term ownership? I am also concerned about BYD's after-sales service and would like to understand how it compares with the other options in terms of service support and long-term reliability.
Based on your usage pattern and concerns, the Kia Carens Clavis EV is the most sensible recommendation. Your daily running of 25 km is well within the comfort zone of any modern EV, and the 200 km weekend trips are easily manageable with a car that offers a realistic range of around 400 km. The Carens Clavis EV is a well-packaged 6-seater with a spacious and practical cabin, and Kia's strong service network gives you the peace of mind you are looking for over a long ownership period. The BYD eMax 7 is a very impressive product with a large battery and strong range, but your concern about after-sales service is valid. BYD's service network is still growing, and for a long-term ownership decision, that can be a significant factor. The Hyundai Creta Electric is a good product, but as a 5-seater it does not meet your requirement for a 6-seater family vehicle. The Carens Clavis EV strikes the right balance between range, practicality, comfort and ownership confidence, making it the best fit for your needs.
Hi, I have Rs. 20 lakh in hand and want to buy an EV. However, my height is a concern, as I am 6'1" tall, so I want a car that is comfortable for my height. I drive roughly 180 km per week and around 1,000 km every month on long road trips.
At 6ft 1in, the Sierra EV is worth considering first because the cabin is genuinely spacious and the driving position should comfortably accommodate a taller driver. It also gives you the SUV stance and substantial cabin that you are looking for, while the large boot makes it better suited to your regular long trips.Your running also makes an EV a sensible choice. Around 180km a week is easily covered through home charging, while the longer 1,000km trips will require some planning around fast charging. The Sierra EV's ride is another advantage for your usage, particularly if those long journeys include uneven roads. The Kia Carens Clavis EV is the other car worth considering. It offers a very spacious cabin and greater seating flexibility, so it makes more sense if carrying family members regularly is important. For a primarily five-seat requirement, however, the Sierra's SUV packaging is likely to appeal more.
Which is the best 7-seater EV I can buy with the most features and a long driving range? I am confused between the MG Tomahawk EV and waiting for the Tata Safari EV. Should I buy the MG now or wait for the Safari EV to launch?
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV has been launched at a very attractive price. Although we haven't tested the Hector Tomahawk EV to comment on its performance, range or comfort, first impressions seem positive, and it seems very competent on paper. The Safari EV, on the other hand, hasn't been launched yet, and it's likely to be more expensive in comparison. So waiting for that might only delay your purchase. If you want a competent, proven seven-seater electric car, you could consider the Mahindra XEV 9S and the Kia Clavis EV. The former is more powerful and nicer to drive, while the latter is a lot more spacious in the third row and will be relatively more affordable.
What are the best EV options in the Rs. 18-20 lakh price range? I need an automatic EV with a good AC system and spacious rear seats, especially for passengers with knee problems.
The MG Windsor is the best electric car option in the Rs 18-20 lakh range if rear seat space and comfort are the priority. It is an MPV rather than an SUV, which means it offers a genuinely spacious rear bench with excellent legroom and a more manageable entry height, making it easier to get in and out of the car and more comfortable for passengers with knee issues. The Windsor also has a strong air conditioning system and a smooth, quiet driving experience, which adds to overall comfort. The next best bet is the Kia Carens Clavis EV, which too is an MPV with a hugely spacious interior and easy-to-access, flexible seating. However, it belongs to one segment above and might stretch your budget beyond Rs 20 lakh. Overall, this MG car is the best package for your needs.
