The Scorpio N Z6 2.2 Diesel MT is the most value for money variant of the line-up, offering all the essential features, along with a diesel engine
Considering a 10 percent down payment and a loan tenure of 7 years, the Mahindra Scorpio N's EMI starts at Rs 23,007.
I read a news report that Mahindra is planning range-extender and strong-hybrid powertrains. Is there a possibility of Mahindra launching a diesel PHEV in models like the Scorpio N and Scorpio Lifestyler pickup?
Mahindra has confirmed that it is working on range extenders and strong hybrids, but it has not announced any diesel plug-in hybrid plans for the Scorpio N or Scorpio Lifestyler. In fact, Mahindra has not confirmed any diesel plug-in hybrid models at all. The company’s hybrid strategy is expected to focus on petrol-based strong hybrids and range extenders, rather than diesel plug-in hybrids.Diesel plug-in hybrids are also relatively rare globally because they are complex and expensive to develop, and the emissions benefits are not as clear-cut as with petrol hybrids. Mahindra’s diesel engines are already very efficient, and the company is more likely to focus on petrol hybrids and range extenders for future hybrid models. So while Mahindra is definitely working on hybrids, a diesel plug-in hybrid Scorpio N or Scorpio Lifestyler is unlikely at this stage.
Following my previous question about replacing my 2019 Tata Hexa, which has covered 1.30 lakh km, with a new SUV or MPV within a budget of Rs 35 lakh and for a daily commute of around 90 km, we had finalised between the Scorpio N and the XUV 7XO, and had found the Scorpio more familiar than the Hexa. Now I am confused about which variant of the Scorpio N to go for: the Z8T or Z8L. The Z8L has ADAS, which isn't much use for my family and me, so is the Z8T the right choice? Although we are not in a rush and can wait another year, are there any upcoming vehicles with the same RWD diesel-manual DNA that are worth waiting for?
Go for the Mahindra Scorpio N Z8T diesel manual. It is the right choice for your usage and budget. The Z8L's main differentiator is ADAS, which you have already identified as something you do not need. The Z8T gives you the same core mechanical package, the same strong diesel engine, and the same RWD and body-on-frame DNA that you liked in the Hexa, without paying extra for features you will not use. The Scorpio N is also one of the few cars in this price range that still offers a proper RWD diesel manual setup, which is exactly what you are looking for.On the question of waiting, there is no clear reason to hold off. There are no major RWD diesel manual SUVs or MPVs expected in the next year that would fundamentally change your decision. This Mahindra car is already a well-established product with a proven ownership track record, and it is one of the few cars that still offers this kind of mechanical package. The only thing to keep in mind is that the Scorpio N is a body-on-frame SUV, so it will not be as refined or as comfortable as the Hexa on long highway runs and bumpy roads as the ride is quite bouncy. But if you are looking for a tough, reliable RWD diesel manual with a strong ownership track record, the Z8T is the right choice.
I am a family of five and am actively looking for a big diesel car. Currently, I am driving Eon. I have finally shortlisted Crysta and Scorpio N Z8. I loved the performance of both engines with Scorpio N being more refined whereas Crysta offers better comfort and stability was good. My father is more inclined towards Crysta while I am leaning towards Scorpio. Should I be bothered by Crysta three-airbag setup?
Go for the Toyota Innova Crysta as it is the better family car here. It is more comfortable, more spacious and more stable on the highway, which is exactly what you want in a big diesel family car. The Scorpio N is the more exciting car to drive, but the Crysta is the car you will appreciate more over years of ownership. On the 3-airbag question: it's only on the lower variants while the higher variant come with 7 airbags . The Crysta is a fundamentally strong and well-engineered car with a proven safety record so it shouldn't be a cause for concern. The Scorpio N does get more safety features, but the Crysta's overall package of comfort, reliability and long-term ownership experience outweighs that. You are coming from an Eon, so this is a big upgrade. The Crysta will feel like a huge step up in comfort, space and refinement.
I am planning to buy a new vehicle for myself and my parents. I have seen the new Audi Q3 2026 and am quite interested in it, but I am not fully convinced about the petrol-only option. I was hoping for a hybrid version, especially considering fuel efficiency at this price point. Secondly, I am also looking for a 4x4 and am currently waiting for the new Fortuner. However, I am confused because many people are suggesting the new Scorpio N or Thar Roxx, saying that if the primary purpose is off-roading, there is no need to spend so much on a Fortuner. Please suggest what would be the better option for my requirements.
The Audi New Q3 is a good choice if you want a premium, comfortable SUV, but I would not buy it expecting a hybrid. The India-spec Q3 is expected to use a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with 204hp, a 7-speed DCT and quattro AWD, with no confirmed hybrid version for India. If your requirement is genuine 4x4 capability, the Toyota Fortuner remains a very different proposition. The next-generation Fortuner is already being tested and is expected in India by early 2027. It is expected to retain petrol and diesel engines, 4x4 capability and the ladder-frame construction, while gaining a much more modern cabin and ADAS.The Mahindra Scorpio N is the sensible alternative if you want a capable 4x4 without spending Fortuner money. The Thar Roxx makes more sense if off-road ability is the priority, but it is less comfortable and practical as a family SUV.For parents, the Q3 will be considerably easier to live with in the city, while the Fortuner is better suited to long-distance touring and serious rough-road use.
Currently, I own a Kia Sonet Diesel Manual and Scorpio N diesel manual. I want to replace Scorpio N diesel manual with a mid-size SUV EV. So, I’m waiting for the Mahindra BE 07 since the XEV 9e is too big for my daily commute and the Mahindra BE 6 isn’t suitable for a family. I am replacing my Scorpio N because there’s too much traffic in the city, parking constraints, and that car is huge, and I want to drive something smaller for daily commute. My usage is 70% within city and 30% within highway.
You are making the right call moving away from the Scorpio N. It is ok as a highway SUV, but in dense city traffic and tight parking, its size becomes a daily headache. The XEV 9e would put you in exactly the same situation, so it is not the right replacement. The BE 6 is a good EV, but it is more of a coupe-style SUV with a sloping roofline, which compromises rear headroom and practicality for family use.The BE 07 is the right car to wait for. It is Mahindra’s upcoming flagship EV and is expected to be a proper midsize SUV with a more practical, family-friendly cabin. It should offer the right balance of size, space and EV performance for your 70:30 city-highway usage. The only caveat is timing - if you need a car soon, the BE 07 may not arrive quickly enough. If you want an alternative that is available now, the Hyundai Creta EV is a very good option. It is spacious and practical EV with a comfortable ride and a family-friendly cabin. It is not as rugged as the Scorpio N, but for city commuting and occasional highway runs, it is a very well-rounded package, moreover the electronics and powertrain are very well calibrated making for a fuss free and easy drive experience and with very good reliability. Not something todays current EVs can boast off. Overall, your thinking is correct: the BE 7 is the right size and type of EV to replace a Scorpio N for city-focused family use. If you can wait, it is worth holding out for to see if it shapes up well. If not, electric Hyundai Creta is the best available alternative at the moment.
