The MG Hector Tomahawk EV has been launched at a very attractive price. Although we haven't tested the Hector Tomahawk EV to comment on its performance, range or comfort, first impressions seem positive, and it seems very competent on paper. The Safari EV, on the other hand, hasn't been launched yet, and it's likely to be more expensive in comparison. So waiting for that might only delay your purchase.If you want a competent, proven seven-seater electric car, you could consider the Mahindra XEV 9S and the Kia Clavis EV. The former is more powerful and nicer to drive, while the latter is a lot more spacious in the third row and will be relatively more affordable.

The MG Windsor is the best electric car option in the Rs 18-20 lakh range if rear seat space and comfort are the priority. It is an MPV rather than an SUV, which means it offers a genuinely spacious rear bench with excellent legroom and a more manageable entry height, making it easier to get in and out of the car and more comfortable for passengers with knee issues. The Windsor also has a strong air conditioning system and a smooth, quiet driving experience, which adds to overall comfort. The next best bet is the Kia Carens Clavis EV, which too is an MPV with a hugely spacious interior and easy-to-access, flexible seating. However, it belongs to one segment above and might stretch your budget beyond Rs 20 lakh. Overall, this MG car is the best package for your needs.

Unfortunately, there are no plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or even strong hybrid options available in the market at this price point. Also, the only seven-seater EV that'll fit into your sub-Rs 20 lakh budget is the entry-level Kia Carens Clavis EV, which will be equipped with a small 42kWh battery, that should give you a real-world range of around 260-300km. Even so, if you can arrange for home charging, this is an excellent option - one that you should definitely consider as it will drastically reduce your running costs. If home charging isn't possible, and you still prefer the flexibility of an ICE vehicle, we'll recommend you to consider the diesel version of the Clavis EV instead. With a monthly running of 1,800-2,000 km and predominantly highway usage, a diesel 7-seater is still a very sensible choice.

The Mahindra XEV 9S is a genuinely impressive product, but yes, at over Rs 30 lakh, it is a significant outlay, and the question is less about whether the car is worth the money and more about whether it is the right fit for you. The XEV 9S offers strong performance, a well-appointed cabin, and a premium feel, but if you would still like to avoid a Mahindra, opt for the Kia Carens Clavis EV. It does not offer you that SUV stance, but its MPV configuration means a flexible interior and a genuinely usable third row too. It's also well appointed inside with a premium look and feel around the cabin, with all the essential and some nice-to-have features too.

The Tata Punch EV is a great value proposition, but at 6'4", you are already experiencing its biggest limitation: cabin space. The driving position in this Tata car is upright, and the seat does not go low enough, which can become uncomfortable on longer drives. Since you are willing to stretch your budget, the MG Windsor EV is the better fit. It offers a significantly more spacious cabin, a wider and more comfortable seat, and a more relaxed driving position. Range is one aspect where this MG car doesn't really hit the 350km mark. Around 300km is what you can expect in normal driving conditions. Highway trips will have to be planned well. The screen inside dominates the dashboard. It is a more premium product than the Punch EV, but the extra spend is justified by the comfort and space.The other option is the new Kia Syros EV. It might seem compact, but the interior is surprisingly spacious, even for tall adults. The battery is a 51.4kWh unit from the bigger Clavis EV, so 400km in one charge should be possible. The rear seat space is also excellent, and the quality of the cabin, along with the usability of day-to-day functions, makes it a very strong contender.
