Isuzu D-Max V-Cross
The Isuzu V-Cross is just one of the two pickup trucks available in the Indian market, and there four trims of it: Z Standard, Z Premium, Z Prestige Standard and Z Prestige Premium. The Isuzu V-Cross price in India starts at Rs 25.50 lakh and goes up Rs 30.00 lakh (ex-showroom). It has just one direct rival in India, which is the Toyota Hilux. Compared to the Toyota, the V-Cross is more affordable, although it is not as premium.
The Isuzu V-Cross is available in 3 variants. All are powered by a 1.9-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine. The engine produces 163hp and 360Nm of torque, and comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. While the manual transmission is available across the line-up, the automatic is only offered with the top two variants. The V-Cross is built on a tough ladder-frame chassis and is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations.
On the equipment front, the V-Cross Z Prestige 4X4 AT comes equipped with LED daytime running lamps, a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry, push button start/stop, powered driver’s seat, shift-on-the-fly 4WD system, leatherette seat upholstery, automatic climate control and a rear parking camera. Standard safety features on the Isuzu V-Cross include ABS, ESC, hill-start assist (automatic only), hill descent control, traction control, blind-spot view, 360-degree camera, 3-point seatbelts with reminders for all seats and a rear defogger. However, it only gets 2 airbags as standard, with only the top Z Prestige trim offering 6 airbags.

Isuzu D-Max V-Cross FAQs
Considering this would be a lifestyle purchase, it’s better to pick the fully loaded 4WD Z Prestige Premium variant. It combines the flexibility of the automatic gearbox and a shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive system. The added benefit of an 8-speaker audio system, faux leather upholstery and 6 airbags are other reasons why you should pick this variant over the others.
While the 6-speed automatic gearbox and a high driving position take some effort out of driving the Isuzu V Cross, its sheer size means that even pottering around town isn’t quite hassle-free. This feeling is exacerbated due to the hydraulically assisted steering wheel, which feels heavy at low speeds. The turning circle of the V Cross is quite large, too.
While it features 18-inch wheels, they are shod with chunky and high-profile tyres. This is part of the reason why the V Cross irons out road imperfections and smaller potholes without much trouble. The V Cross also filters out the shocks resulting from hitting larger bumps, adding to its drivability. However, the V Cross tends to bounce about quite a bit if the bed is empty. Plus, there’s quite a bit of body movement in general at all speeds.
The Isuzu V Cross’s bed is capable of carrying up to 215kg of cargo, which is much lower than what the Toyota Hilux is rated at. Globally, the Isuzu V Cross has a higher weight capacity than its India-spec counterpart.
Questions you may find useful
Hi AAA, My name is Richu, and I'm from Kerala. I'm keen on buying a lifestyle pickup truck. I don't really have a practical use case for it. It's purely a passion purchase, and I want something that stands out from ordinary vehicles. It will be my secondary car, mainly used for occasional family trips and some mild off-roading. I recently test-drove both the Isuzu V-Cross and the Toyota Hilux. I loved the Hilux for its strong performance and, the availability of a locking rear differential. However, I wasn't impressed with its ride quality. It felt quite stiff, and there was noticeable pitching from the back. When I drove the V-Cross on the same stretch of road, the ride felt much more comfortable. I also preferred the V-Cross for its looks and overall ride comfort. Now I'm confused about which one to buy. The Hilux is based on Toyota's current-generation platform, whereas the V-Cross is based on a much older platform. Toyota also has a stronger service network than Isuzu. So, it's a classic heart vs mind dilemma, and I'd really appreciate your help in choosing between these two vehicles.
The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross certainly scores with its more comfortable ride and attractive pricing, and among Isuzu cars it remains one of the most appealing lifestyle-oriented options. However, it's built on a platform that now feels dated. The Toyota Hilux, on the other hand, offers a more powerful engine, a more premium cabin, better equipment, and the added confidence of a locking rear differential. It also benefits from an extensive service network of Toyota cars and its well-earned reputation for long-term reliability. That said, if the purchase isn't urgent, it would be worth waiting a little longer. The next-generation Hilux is expected to arrive in India soon, bringing improvements in comfort, interior space, features, and overall refinement. There's also a good chance it will address some of the ride quality concerns you experienced with the current model. So, while the Isuzu car might be the safer bet at the moment, we would advise test-driving the new-gen Toyota Hilux before making your decision.
I want a powerful vehicle to build a campervan. The Tata Yodha and Mahindra are two options, but they are very rough to drive. I can extend my budget up to ₹20 lakh, but want something strong yet more refined. Is there any chance of an electric vehicle suitable for this purpose becoming available and legal in the near future?
If you can extend your budget further, it’s worth going for the Isuzu D-Max V-cross for your campervan project. Like the Tata and Mahindra, the Isuzu is rugged too but offers a more refined drive experience. It also gets a punchy 163hp, 360Nm 1.9-litre diesel engine and it can even be had with an automatic gearbox for added convenience. As for an electric option, there’s nothing on the horizon just yet. Isuzu did showcase an electric version of the D-Max at the Bharat Mobility Show but it’s unlikely to be launched here.
