Volkswagen has reduced the price of its Polo GTI by Rs 6 lakh.

Volkswagen’s CBU hot hatch, the Polo-based GTI, will now cost Rs 19.99 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. The price tag has come down from the pre-GST one of Rs 25.99 lakh, thanks to the implementation of the flat tax rate. The reduction of Rs 6 lakh will aid in making the GTI more affordable.

The VW GTI is powered by a 1.8-litre, turbo-petrol motor that makes a whopping 192hp and 250Nm of peak torque, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It is capable of propelling the 1,273kg hot hatch to 100kph in a claimed 7.2 seconds, and on to a top speed of 233kph. To help rein in that power, the GTI gets a limited-slip differential, disc brakes with ABS, ESP and hill-hold control.

To differentiate it from its standard brethren, the GTI comes with three doors, GTI badges, a new honeycomb mesh grille, red accents in the full LED headlamps, sportier bumpers and a wider track with bigger 16-inch wheels (17-inchers are optional).

Volkswagen has allotted a limited run of 99 models to the Indian market. Bookings are still open on the Volkswagen India website which indicates there are still unsold units.
