Kia showcased a hatchback version of its K4 nameplate (currently sold as a sedan in some foreign markets) at the 2025 New York International Auto Show. Though the Korean carmaker had teased the new body style last year, this is the first time it has revealed it entirely. A rival to the Volkswagen Golf, the K4 hatchback is expected to be introduced in key markets across North America, the Middle East and Asia by late 2025.

The all-new K4 gets two engine options: a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol (147hp, 179Nm) and a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol (190hp, 264Nm). While the NA mill is paired with the brand’s IVT unit, the sportier block gets an 8-speed automatic transmission. Three variants will be on offer: EX, GT-Line and GT-Line Turbo. The GT-Line variants will have a sports-tuned suspension, which, the brand claims, improves handling.

Other features include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (standard), a 360-degree camera setup, a Harman Kardon sound system, heated and ventilated front seats, a sunroof, over-the-air updates (OTA), connected car tech and 29 ADAS features.

From the front, the hatchback appears identical to the sedan, with notable similarities such as the EV9-inspired vertically stacked LED headlights, T-shaped daytime running lamps and a slim signature Tiger Nose grille. Changes become apparent only in the profile. The car is 279mm shorter than the 4,710mm-long sedan. The spoiler “seamlessly integrates with the rear, resulting in a sleek, modern profile”, said Orth Hedrick, executive director of product planning at Kia North America, during the car’s unveiling.

However, the design of the alloy wheels (16 to 18 inches likely) and tail-lights is unchanged. Kia claims that the hatchback has a 628-litre boot space, which is over 52 percent more than its sedan counterpart. This is extendable to 1,679 litres with the second-row seats folded flat.
