    The Tata Nexon EV Max, which has just launched in India, is essentially a long-range version of the standard Nexon EV. A larger battery, improved power and torque figures, plenty of new features – there’s a lot distinguishing the Nexon EV Max from the standard car. The Nexon EV Max also expands the driving range and price band, thus appealing to a wider set of buyers. So, here are top 10 differences between the standard Nexon EV and its new long-range Max sibling.

    1. Nexon EV Max: costs Rs 1.54 lakh more

    Available in two trims – XZ+ and XZ+ Lux – the Nexon EV Max is priced between Rs 17.74 lakh-19.24 lakh (ex-showroom). Both these trims are available with either a 3.3kW AC charger or a more powerful 7.2kW AC charger. Meanwhile, the standard Nexon EV comes in three trims – XM, XZ+ and XZ+ Lux – with only a 3.3kW AC charger as standard. Therefore, comparing equivalent variants of both models with the 3.3kW AC charger, the Nexon EV Max commands a premium of Rs 1.54 lakh over the standard model. Meanwhile, the 7.2kW AC charger-equipped variants of the Nexon EV Max are Rs 2.04 lakh more expensive than the corresponding variant of the standard Nexon EV.

    2. Nexon EV Max: battery larger by 10.3kWh

    The biggest talking point of the Nexon EV Max is, of course, its larger battery pack, which is now a 40.5kWh unit, up by 10.3kWh from the standard Nexon EV’s 30.2kWh battery pack. The 40.5kWh battery pack has 30 percent more cells than the standard one, for which it's also taller and wider than the smaller battery pack.

    3. Nexon EV Max: range extended by 125km

    The larger battery pack naturally brings in more range. The Nexon EV Max has an ARAI-claimed range of 437km – 125km more than the standard model’s 312km certified range. While real-world range remains to be tested, the regular Nexon EV has a theoretical real-world range of 201km on highways and 216km in the city, as per Autocar India’s test cycle.

    4. Nexon EV Max: faster 7.2kWh charging option

    As for charging, it takes about 10 hours for the 3.3kW AC charger to fully top up the 30.2kWh battery on the standard Nexon EV. However, due to a larger 40.5kWh battery on the Nexon EV Max, the same 3.3kW AC charger takes 15-16 hours to fully top it up. But this charging time can be drastically reduced to just 5-6 hours, if the 7.2kW AC charger variants are opted for.

    5. Nexon EV Max: power and torque upped 

    Tata Motors has also upped the power and torque outputs on the Nexon EV Max which are now rated at 143hp and 250Nm, up by 14hp and 5Nm from the standard Nexon EV. As for performance, the regular Nexon EV does the 0-100kph sprint in 9.3 seconds, while the Nexon EV Max is claimed to do it under 9 seconds.

    6. Nexon EV Max: many new features

    The Nexon EV Max gets major upgrades on the features front, over the standard model. This includes an illuminated gear knob with a park mode, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, air purifier, wireless charger, cooled seats, multi-drive modes (Eco, City and Sport) and hill descent control. Additionally, it also gets smartwatch integration and cruise control along with an upgraded ZConnect 2.0 connected car technology with 48 features.

    7. Nexon EV Max: adjustable regen braking

    The Nexon EV Max gets multi-mode regen with three levels for braking, with the highest regen level aiding in single-pedal driving. While the standard Nexon EV also features regenerative braking, it is non-adjustable. One can also switch off brake regeneration completely. It also improves on safety with ESC that prevents wheel spin, something that's quite prevalent on the regular Nexon EV. 

    8. Nexon EV Max: cosmetic updates 

    In terms of cosmetic changes, the differences between the two models are frankly very minimal. The Nexon EV Max gets a new dual-tone five-spoke alloy wheel design. It also gets dual-tone paint schemes as standard, and is offered with an exclusive, new intensi-teal paint shade option. On the inside, the Nexon EV Max gets a unique beige theme that will not be available on the standard model.

    9. Nexon EV Max: weighs 100kg more

    The Nexon EV Max is also about 100kg heavier than the regular model – 70kg of which is due to the larger battery and 30kg is due to the additional equipment. Tata Motors has tuned the spring and dampers to handle the additional weight, along with modifying the floor structure to accommodate the larger battery.

    10. Nexon EV Max: 10mm lower ground clearance 

    With the battery growing in its depth, the ground clearance on the Nexon EV Max has gone down by 10mm over the regular model. However, the bigger battery hasn’t eaten into boot space, as the Nexon EV Max continues with 350-litres of boot space as the standard model.

    At 1400kg and 129 BHP the power to weight ratio for Tata Nexon EV is close to 0.09. With 100kg extra, even at 143BHP, the power to weight ratio of EV Max remains close to 0.09. It would be interesting to see how it behaves in real-life situations.
