Land Rover has reportedly delayed the launch of the upcoming Range Rover Electric SUV to 2026. The launch window was updated quietly on the Range Rover website, supplanting earlier claims that order books for the Range Rover Electric would open in late 2025. Notably, this delay could also impact the release of the reborn Jaguar brand.

The Range Rover Electric is JLR’s second EV after 2018’s Jaguar I-Pace. However, unlike the contract-manufactured I-Pace, the Range Rover Electric is the first EV to be fully developed and built in-house at JLR. Around 62,000 customers had signed up for the Range Rover Electric, but they’ll have to wait a little more now.
More time for testing even as EV adoption slows down.
According to a new report from The Guardian, JLR delayed the Range Rover Electric due to the need for more extensive testing and the current global market conditions for EVs. In recent years, EV adoption has taken a nosedive worldwide, prompting reconsiderations from carmakers that were initially bullish on an all-electric future.
Moreover, the upcoming Tata battery factory in Somerset, UK – critical to JLR’s long-term EV supply chain – has seen its production being pushed by one year to late 2027. Closely aligning the debuts of JLR EVs with battery availability might also be part of the carmaker’s revised strategy.
JLR’s comment:
Responding to the report, a JLR spokesperson said, “By 2030, JLR will sell electric versions of all its luxury brands. Our plans and vehicle architectures are flexible so we can adapt to different market and client demands. We are committed to the highest standards of design, capability and quality, and we will launch our new models at the right time for our clients, our business and individual markets.”
New Range Rover, Jaguar EVs may also be delayed
Range Rover Sport and Velar EVs were supposed to launch in 2026.
The Range Rover Electric’s delay is expected to affect other models in JLR’s EV roadmap. New electric versions of the Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Velar – slated to launch in 2026 – could be postponed. Jaguar’s upcoming EV models – part of a brand relaunch aimed at avantgarde electric mobility – might face revised timelines as well.
New wave of Jaguar EV models could be affected.
The first of the new Jaguar EVs is the production version of the Type 00 super GT concept, which was originally scheduled for August 2026. It was to be followed by a large electric luxury sedan and an SUV in 2027. However, this timeline shift could see the new Jag models launch as late as 2028.
