Porsche is steadily launching more performance-focused versions of its 911 in India; with the 500hp, 911 GT3 coming late last year and the 520hp, 911 GT3 RS introduced at the beginning of this one. The German brand is now gearing up to launch the most focused 911 model, yet – the 911 GT2 RS, scheduled to arrive on July 10, 2018.

The 911 GT2 RS was officially revealed about a year ago at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and claimed its place at the top of Porsche line-up thanks to its output and performance figures. While the 3.8-litre, flat-six, twin-turbocharged engine is shared with the 911 Turbo, it has seen significant revisions and now makes a whopping 700hp and 750Nm of peak torque. Porsche’s ZF-sourced seven-speed dual-clutch transmission has been revised, as well, and sends all that power to the rear wheels only.

Porsche has also reduced the weight of the 911 GT2 RS compared to the standard 911 by a significant margin thanks to its weight-saving tweaks, such as a carbon-fibre bonnet, front wings, exterior mirror housings and air duct surrounds, and a titanium exhaust system that is 7kg lighter than before. Like the 911 GT3 RS, the 911 GT2 RS also has a magnesium roof as standard. The most hardcore 911 tips the scales at 1,470kg. Akin to the 918 Spyder, Porsche offers a Weissach Package to reduce the overall weight by another 30kg; the package uses a carbon-fibre roof and roll bars, and magnesium alloy wheels.

The 700hp engine and 1,470kg kerb weight helps the 911 GT2 RS claim various titles – the quickest-accelerating Porsche taking a claimed 2.8sec to 100kph, the joint-fastest road-legal series-production Porsche with a top speed equivalent to the 918 Spyder at 339kph, as well as the fastest production car around the Nürburgring, with a time of 6:47.30.

Porsche’s website lists the price of the 911 GT2 RS at Rs 3.88 crore (ex-showroom, India).
