Chevrolet has unveiled a futuristic Corvette concept manufactured at its new design studio in the United Kingdom. The all-electric Chevy Corvette, confirmed in 2022, will be followed by two more prototypes this year, the last of which may be showcased at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July. That design will more closely preview the next-generation Corvette expected by 2028.

Massive air intakes at the front are bordered by thin LED strips forming an inverted ‘L’ shape, and the redesigned 'fleur-de-lis' (flower of the lily) Corvette emblem on the bonnet is blacked out. It gets 22 and 23-inch wheels at the front and back, respectively. The brand new EV concept incorporates iconic Corvette design in a race car-inspired futuristic shape. As per the designers, the prototype draws inspiration from fighter jets for both sculptural and functional parts. Also, a centre line which partitions the front and rear windscreens supports the gullwing doors.

“The lower half focuses on functional technical design, including EV battery technology embedded into the structure and aerodynamic elements designed to channel air efficiently without the need for wings or spoilers,” as per Chevrolet.

    Aero Duality feature

Just like in the current Corvette, the concept version gets the Aero Duality fan assist feature, directing air over and through the vehicle’s ducts to increase aerodynamic efficiency and range. While there is no production intent for the concept, they are aimed at showcasing the British team’s fresh perspective to “completely rethink the Corvette”.

Ex-Jaguar design boss at the helm

Situated in Leamington Spa, the design facility is led by Julian Thomson, ex-Jaguar design chief. He has also contributed to the designs of the Range Rover Evoque and Lotus Elise, and briefly worked for Volkswagen. The inauguration of the workshop comes amid Chevrolet-parent General Motors’ plans to re-establish itself after a 10-year absence in Europe.
