India's leading luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz today showcased the E-class All-Terrain at the ongoing Auto Expo 2018. A high-riding iteration of the E-class Estate, the All-Terrain is expected to go on sale in India later this year.

The E-class All-Terrain is equipped with the 4matic four-wheel-drive system and rides on 19-inch wheels that accentuate its off-road capabilities. Moreover, it also gets ‘Dynamic Select’ as standard that offers five different drive modes, including an ‘All-Terrain’ mode.

On the outside, the E-class All-Terrain gets some notable styling tweaks over the standard car such as two-tone front bumper with faux skid plates, a prominent twin-blade grille, black wheel arch cladding, roof rails, faux skid plates underneath the doors, and two-tone rear bumper with integrated trapezoidal-shaped exhaust tails.

The cabin of the All-Terrain remains identical in terms of layout while there are subtle changes made to the finish, like an exclusive aluminium carbon-fibre trim, stainless steel pedals and ‘All-Terrain’ branded floor mats. Like other new Mercedes SUVs, the E-class All-Terrain’s infotainment monitor will show the steering angle, suspension level, angle of slope and angle of inclination of the vehicle, along with accelerator and brake positioning.

In India, Mercedes will launch the 220d variant of the All-Terrain. The model uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel – churning out 194hp and a torque rating of 400Nm – mated to a nine-speed G Tronic torque convertor. Mercedes claims a top-speed of 232kph for the rugged model.

When launched, the E-class All-Terrain will lock horns with the Volvo V90 Cross Country and later with the A6 All-Road Quattro, if Audi decides to bring it to our market.

The All-Terrain joins other models such as the Mercedes-Maybach S 650, Mercedes EQ concept, and the S 560 and the Petronas F1 car at the German carmaker's pavilion at the Auto Expo.
