The Lexus LFR has made its first public appearance as the ‘Toyota GT Concept’ at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025. In addition to the LFR prototype, Toyota showed off the supercar’s hardcore GT3 racer version, previewed under the ‘GT Racing Concept’ moniker.

First previewed by the Toyota GT3 GR concept car in 2022, the LFR (tentative name) will be positioned as Lexus’ flagship performance model and a successor of sorts to the beloved LFA supercar. To that end, the heavily camouflaged LFR prototype shown off at Goodwood sports a classic low-slung long bonnet and short rear proportions.

Up front, the LFR features sharp wing-shaped headlights with gaping air intakes underneath and large ducts on the bonnet. Moving over to the side reveals a big opening behind the front fender – likely to aid aerodynamics – as well as another duct above the rear wheel arch. At the back, the LFR gets a sizeable ducktail spoiler with an integrated stop light, below which seems to be a connected tail-lamp setup, angular air exits, a massive diffuser and quad exhaust pipes.

The LFR’s GT3 counterpart is expectedly lower to the ground and equipped with much more radical exterior fitments, like a bigger front splitter, a wider air dam with a tow hook, endurance-spec running lights in the bumper, extra ducts in the bonnet, slatted air exits above the front wheel arch, race-spec tyres and wheels, side-exit exhausts, a huge twin-slat diffuser, a massive wing, and more.

Expected to use a twin-turbo V8 hybrid powertrain

Toyota remains tight-lipped about the LFR’s powertrain, but the deep, rumbling exhaust sound heard during its Goodwood Hill run lends credence to reports of a twin-turbo V8 hybrid setup for the Lexus supercar. This powertrain could yield close to 700hp in the LFR, far outpacing the 560hp produced by the LFA’s 4.8-litre naturally aspirated V10.

The GT3 counterpart of the LFR is expected to use the same twin-turbo V8 sans the hybrid setup for a 500-600hp output and a kerb weight of no more than 1,300kg, aligning with GT3 regulations.

Likely to launch before end of 2026

At the time of writing, Toyota hadn’t officially confirmed the LFR’s launch timeline. However, the Japanese carmaker is expected to race the LFR’s GT3 sibling in 2026, indicating that the production version could go on sale in global markets before the end of next year. Once it launches, the LFR will compete with V8-powered coupes like the Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT.
