Jeep Wrangler Willys ’41 Edition

The Jeep Wrangler Willys '41 Special Edition, launched earlier this month at Rs 73.24 lakh (ex-showroom, India), has sold out in just three weeks. This special edition comes with a unique colour option that pays homage to Wrangler’s military roots, and there are a couple of new accessories as well. Only 30 units of the Wrangler Willys ‘41 Special Edition were allocated to India.

  1. Willys '41 Special Edition is based on the Wrangler Rubicon
  2. Gets an exclusive green paint shade and a new hood decal
  3. New accessories include powered side steps, front and rear dashcams

Jeep Wrangler Willys '41 Special Edition: design and accessories

Based on the top-spec Rubicon variant, the Wrangler Willys '41 Special Edition is finished in an exclusive “41 Green” paint shade, reminiscent of the military green seen on the original Willys Jeep. There’s also a ‘1941’ decal on the hood, marking the year the Willys MB – the military-spec Jeep – went into mass production. This special edition was also available in the regular colours offered with the Wrangler: white, black, red, and grey.

The Wrangler Willys '41 Special Edition also gets a powered side step, new interior grab handles, all-weather floor mats, and front and rear dashcams – useful accessories for off-road trails. For an additional Rs 4.65 lakh, customers could opt for a sunrider rooftop and a side ladder with a roof carrier for that extra dose of adventure aesthetics.

Jeep Wrangler Willys '41 Special Edition: powertrain, specs

The Wrangler Willys '41 Special Edition is mechanically unchanged, so it continues to be powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 270hp and 400Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and a full-time 4x4 system.

The '1941' hood decal marks the year the original Willys MB went into production.

Given its exclusivity, this one was quite a collectible for Jeep purists. Such special edition models at the premium end of the market are known to sell quite well, which is why even JLR and Mercedes are coming up with ‘India-special’ versions of the Range Rover and AMG G63 soon. Limited units and the resulting exclusivity are something that’s endearing for such high-end customers.
