Jeep will unveil the mid-cycle update for the Compass SUV at an global online event on June 4, 2020. The refreshed Compass will come to India sometime in early 2021. We have been tracking the Jeep Compass facelift for quite some time now and can confirm that the updated Compass will get cosmetic changes inside and out.

What changes will the Compass facelift get on the outside?

The mid-cycle update is expected to come with minor sheet-metal changes. The 2021 Compass will get all-new front and rear bumpers, re-profiled headlamps and a new grille that will still sport Jeep’s traditional seven-slat design. The grille will also sport honeycomb-like inserts.

What changes will the Compass facelift get inside?

In the cabin, the 2021 Compass facelift will get better quality, soft-touch materials all around. Also, as reported by us earlier, the Compass facelift will come equipped with the new, upgraded infotainment system, dubbed the UConnect 5.

FCA’s UConnect infotainment system was unveiled at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show with multiple screen-size options; the largest of which is a massive 12.3-inch portrait-style setup. This new system comes bundled with integrated Amazon Alexa support and wireless AppleCarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and it can also receive over-the-air updates. While there is no official confirmation about the screen size for the updated Compass, sources tell us that it may come with the 12.3-inch setup. This means that the updated Compass could even see a heavily reworked dashboard design in order to accommodate the larger screen.

A bigger touchscreen with a much more advanced system will help the updated Compass take the game further as this feature has become one of the key selling points for customers in the midsize SUV segment. Current segment leaders – the Kia Seltos, MG Hector and the all-new Creta – all come with touchscreens larger than 10 inches. With the 12.3-inch (which will become the largest in its segment) UConnect 5 system, Jeep will aim to lure buyers towards the Compass facelift.

Are there any changes expected to the Compass facelift’s powertrain?

There are no changes expected under the hood of the India-spec Compass facelift.  This means the same 163hp, 1.4-litre turbo-petrol and the 173hp, 2.0-litre diesel engines will continue to soldier on in the updated SUV. Both get a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard though the turbo-petrol gets a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic option, while the diesel mill is also available with a 9-speed torque convertor unit.

Key rivals to the refreshed Compass in India will include the recently launched Skoda Karoq, Volkswagen T-Roc, the MG Hector, Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta.

Jeep is also readying an all-new seven-seat SUV that will share its underpinnings with the Compass.
