BMW Alpina Vision GT

The 2026 Vision grand tourer concept, revealed on Friday, shows what the future of Alpina could look like under BMW. Formerly a standalone tuning company, Alpina came under full control of BMW at the start of 2026, following its 2022 acquisition. The prototype itself will not spawn a production car, but it shows the design direction for future Alpina models. These cars will be priced above current BMW models, but below Rolls-Royce. The first production Alpina car under BMW will be based on the 7 Series, and it will debut in 2027.

  1. The Vision concept is powered by a V8 engine
  2. It offers a 2+2 seating layout
  3. Like the new 7 Series, it gets a rhomboid touchscreen, passenger display

The Vision is a 2+2 seater coupe, stretching the tape to 5.2 metres. The front gets Alpina’s signature shark-nose treatment, and the slim grille is inspired by the 1956 BMW 507. The daytime running lights use a warm white colour, and the headlamps have small illuminated crystal details.

The concept carries over classic Alpina touches, including 20-spoke design for the wheels (22-inch front and 23-inch rear), an 'ALPINA' wordmarked chin spoiler and quad exhaust tips. It also gets a subtle version of the Deco Set stripes. On production cars, BMW plans to hand-paint these stripes instead of using decals.

The interior gets a two-tone finish, with a darker upper section and a lighter lower section. Alpina has used full-grain leather for the upholstery, along with stitching that takes inspiration from the brand's deco lines. It also gets open-pore wood and machined metal detailing on trims. A steering wheel with vertical twin spokes with the new Alpina logo in the centre, a full-width display unit at the base of the windscreen, a rhomboid-shaped infotainment touchscreen and a separate passenger display are also present, similar to what we recently saw on the updated 7 Series.

At the rear, there are BMW Alpina crystal glasses that rise automatically from the centre console. Each glass has 20 Deco lines, and they are held in place with hidden magnets.

The Vision prototype is powered by a front, longitudinally-mounted V8 engine. The full technical specifications are not disclosed yet, but as per Autocar UK, the first production car is likely to use a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 without hybrid assistance. It could even be tuned differently from other cars in the BMW Group. Production Alpina cars will also keep the Comfort Plus damper setting that was used in its previous models.

X7 to get Alpina treatment after 7 Series

The X7 will be the second model, after the 7 Series, to get Alpina treatment. Alpina boss Oliver Viellechner has said the brand is also looking at an electric model. He said BMW Group has the right parts to build an electric, high-performance car, but did not give a timeline. For now, though, the focus will stay on combustion-engined models. Viellechner added that Alpina's annual volumes could be around 2,500 units.

He also pointed to the strong demand for Maybach in China, a market that Alpina may want to aim for. For now, it's not clear how far down the BMW lineup Alpina will go, but the B3 and B5 seem unlikely to fit the brand's new positioning, stated Autocar UK.

Poll of the month

What do you think about the push for ethanol blends even higher than E20 petrol?

Good move; it cuts dependence on crude oil imports
I support it as it’s a greener solution than pure petrol
I’ll accept it only if it’s cheaper than E20 petrol
I am concerned about damage to my vehicle
Not good; fuel efficiency will drop even further
