Maruti Suzuki has been on a roll with back to back launches of new or updated models. The company introduced the new Celerio late last year, and since has introduced models like the Ertiga facelift, the XL6 facelift, the all-new Baleno and the new Brezza compact SUV, and is gearing up to introduce its first-ever midsize SUV, the Grand Vitara, in the Indian market.

With multiple vehicle launches and continuous high demand, the company has a delivery backlog that now stands at 3,87,000 units currently. This number was around 2,80,000 units between April and June 2022.

  • Around 20,000 units of Brezza yet to be delivered
  • Order backlog for the Baleno stands at around 38,000 units
  • Grand Vitara deliveries expected to commence next month

Maruti Suzuki order backlog: Brezza and Baleno see strong demand

Right from its market introduction in October 2015, the new Baleno has been a strong seller for the brand, and currently, there's over 38,000 units of the car to be delivered.  Additionally, strong demand for the new Brezza compact SUV – with 30,000 units yet to be delivered – and the recently unveiled Grand Vitara has been one of the main reasons for the high backlog. The Grand Vitara already has gathered 40,000 bookings ahead of its market launch and dealers tell us that deliveries for the Grand Vitara will begin next month.

Maruti Suzuki has a vehicle manufacturing capacity of 2.3 million units per annum. This comprises 7,00,000 units at Plant 1 (Gurugram) in two shifts at two assembly facilities, 8,80,000 units at Plant 2 (Manesar) in two shifts at three assembly facilities, and 7,50,000 units at Plant 3 (Suzuki Motor Corp plant at Hansalpur, Gujarat).

CNG vehicles account for 33 percent of pending orders

Maruti Suzuki India, which has the first-mover advantage in the CNG car market, continues to witness strong demand for its CNG models – Alto, S-Presso, Wagon R, Celerio, Dzire, Ertiga, Eeco, Super Carry and Tour-S and more recently the Swift. Of Maruti’s current order backlog of  3,87,000 units, CNG variants account for 33 percent, or around 1,26,000 units.

Upcoming Maruti Suzuki launches: 2022 and beyond

Maruti has just introduced the new Alto K10 in India and is expected to start deliveries for the flagship Grand Vitara SUV next month. The brand is also readying an all-new coupe-style SUV based on the Baleno (Codename YTB) and is also expected to introduce the five-door Jimny in India sometime next year.
