The TVS Apache RTR 160 is powered by a single 159.7cc air-cooled engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a wet multiplate clutch, a specification sheet that stays identical across all seven variants in the range; there is no automatic transmission variant of this motorcycle. What does change from model to model is the electronics and braking package layered onto that same mechanical base, governed by the three switchable ride modes, Urban, Rain and Sport, which alter throttle response and power delivery rather than any hardware.
Kerb weight is 138kg on a 1,300mm wheelbase, with a 12-litre fuel tank, dimensions that stay constant through the range and that underpin Autocar India's road test finding of a 0-100kph time of 17.37 seconds, quick for the segment. The same road test flagged two real-world caveats worth noting alongside the numbers: the suspension "bottoms out when hitting sharp edged bumps" on rough roads, and the riding position "never really feels right" for taller riders over longer distances, both relevant to anyone evaluating the RTR 160 purely on its spec sheet without accounting for ride quality.
Braking hardware is the other point of technical differentiation. The RM Drum trims use drum brakes with single-channel ABS, RM Disc BT and above move to disc brakes, and the range-topping Anniversary Edition is the sole variant equipped with dual-channel ABS, the most complete braking specification in the lineup.
