My Pulsar N250 now gives 30-35.. before E20, i used to see mileage figures of 40-45. Even my Maruti Suzuki Brezza Petrol now only gives 13-15. I used to get around 18+ before.
Hi - I’ve been riding a 2014 Unicorn and now I’m looking to buy a new bike. Could you help me decide whether I should go for a 150 cc or a 350 cc model? I won’t be doing long rides very often - my weekly distance will be just about 10-12 km at most. I’m looking for something stylish, not the traditional Unicorn look. Here are some models I’m considering: the Royal Enfield Meteor 350, Honda CB350RS, Bajaj Pulsar N160 / Pulsar N250, and the TVS Apache RTR 160. Could you advise?
If you're not going to go on longer journeys often and want to stay in the same displacement range as your Unicorn, the Bajaj Pulsar N160 and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V will serve you well. If you want a small step up in terms of performance without sacrificing too much fuel economy, the Bajaj Pulsar N250, Honda Hornet 2.0 and Suzuki Gixxer 250 will fit the bill. You can also take a look at the KTM 160 Duke and Yamaha MT-15 because, while they have smaller displacement engines, they are liquid-cooled and offer punchy performance with great fuel economy. The more laidback Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and Honda CB350RS will definitely feel more special in their riding experience and fit & finish. Also, it will be significantly more expensive to buy and maintain compared to the aforementioned bikes.
Hello Autocar team, I’m looking to buy a bike for my daily commute, and I ride more than 40 km a day. I want a feature-rich bike with the latest tech, good performance and strong fuel efficiency. Could you suggest some bikes that meet my requirements?
You haven't specified your budget, so we'll suggest some options across various price brackets - within reason. The prices we have mentioned are all ex-showroom, Delhi prices and on-road prices will be higher. If you are open to spending Rs 1 lakh - Rs 1.50 lakh, you can get proven 125-160cc options from reputed brands such as Honda Unicorn / SP160, various Yamaha FZ models, Bajaj Pulsar 125 / 150 / N160, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and Hero Xtreme 160R 4V. These are all straightforward commuters, but the newer variants are packing in the latest tech and features, which is something you value. If you're okay to extend to Rs 2 lakh, then options like the Bajaj Pulsar N250SS, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, Hero Xpulse 210, TVS Ronin and Yamaha XSR155 come into the picture. Depending on where you look, you get more performance, more comfort or both compared to the bikes under Rs 1.50 lakh listed above. These bikes will return lower fuel efficiency owing to their larger displacement motors but compensate for that with better performance.Depending on your budget, take a test ride and then make your decision. Should you need more help, please write back to us, and we'll get back to you!
Is Bajaj Pulsar 220F a good choice for daily commute of 50km?
In isolation, the Bajaj Pulsar 220F is a proven workhorse with a punchy engine, comfortable rider's traingle position and good highway stability, which makes it well-suited for longer daily runs. It is also relatively affordable to maintain and has a wide service network, which is important for a high-mileage commuter. That said, the 220F is now nearly 2 decades old and has only seen regulatory and minor feature-related updates since. It does not offer the refinement or modern features of newer-generation bikes in the segment. If your commute is mostly highway and you don't mind the old-school feel of the 220F, it can make sense for you. However, if you are looking for a more modern package with better refinement, consider Bajaj's own Pulsar N250, the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V or Honda Hornet 2.0 as similiarly-priced and comparable alternatives. Try to take a test ride of all four before you make your decision to see where your preferences lie.
I am thinking of getting a new bike after using a TVS Sport 100cc for almost 15 years. I have been interested in sports bikes since childhood, and now that I am settled, I am thinking of getting one. Earlier, I was considering the Kawasaki Ninja 300, but its price has recently increased while offering minimal features and high maintenance costs. For some time, I also considered the Ultraviolette F77, but I am still sceptical about its long-term reliability. The Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 has always been on my mind, and I recently visited its showroom. I really like the colours of the SF 150 more than those of the 250, but I also don't want to miss out on the thrill of the 250. I am particularly interested in the SF 250 FFV variant, but it is available in only two colours, neither of which I find very appealing. I really like one of the colours offered on the SF 150, but it isn't available on the 250. I also came across the Suzuki GSX-8R, and it was love at first sight. Now I am wondering if Suzuki could launch a similar bike in the coming months. I am very confused. What should I do?
The Suzuki Gixxer models (both 150 and 250) are due to get a generation change soon and therefore, buying one of them right now would not be our recommendation. If you want something in a similar displacement and price bracket, then the Bajaj Pulsar N250 would be the closest match. The Hero Xtreme 250R is also a well-priced alternative that rides well and unlocks a whole new spectrum of performance, although Premia dealerships are quite few and far between currently.
