TVS Orbiter teaser

A few months ago, we exclusively reported that TVS is readying an all-new electric scooter that will sit below the iQube in the company’s EV portfolio. This product is likely to be called the Orbiter, and TVS has now issued invites for an EV launch on August 28 – which is likely to be this new product.

  1. TVS’s entry-level EV is likely to be called the Orbiter
  2. Expected to be a simple, low-cost EV

TVS Orbiter India launch details and price expectation

It is likely to be priced below or around the Rs 1 lakh mark

The invite confirms the launch date but stops short of revealing the product itself. However, as we reported earlier, TVS is developing a simple, no-frills scooter that is expected to use a hub-mounted motor in order to keep costs accessible.

Expected to be positioned below the iQube range, this new scooter is likely to form the entry point into TVS’ electric line-up. The Orbiter name is the frontrunner for this new TVS electric scooter, although the company has also filed trademarks for other names, such as EV-one and ‘O’.

The TVS iQube has one of the most widespread line-ups in the electric scooter game, with five variants available across three battery capacities. Pricing for the iQube starts at Rs 1 lakh for the smallest 2.2kWh variant and goes up to nearly Rs 2 lakh for the range-topping 5.1kWh version. We have been led to believe that this new TVS electric scooter will be positioned below the iQube, and given its intended positioning, it is reasonable to expect a small battery, simpler parts and fewer features.

With ever-diminishing government subsidies and increasing inflation, the onus is on manufacturers to bring out newer products at competitive price points. TVS seems to be doing that with its new entry-level electric scooter. Full details will be revealed on August 28, so watch this space for more.
