Ather Energy is quickly expanding its presence across India and has revealed its plans for the coming years.

    Ather Energy’s new markets

Ather Energy is on an expansion spree and plans to increase its presence to 50 cities in India by April 2022. By April 2023, Ather is targeting 100 cities in India. At present Ather Energy is operational in 22 cities, including Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Hubli, Kochi and Ahmedabad.

Along with expanding its presence pan India, the company will also magnify the Ather Grid fast changing network. There are plans to have 500 fast charging points across India by the end of FY2022.

A large charging infrastructure takes care of one of the barriers to adoption of EVs. The second barrier, that is cost, is also taken care of to some extent, by the FAME II subsidies offered by the Government of India. In addition, states such as Delhi and Gujarat have announced additional subsidies for EVs, further boosting the appeal of an electric vehicle.

New Ather Experience center in Delhi

The company has also inaugurated its new Ather Space Experience center in the national capital. Located in Lajpat Nagar, this is the 10th such center in the country and marks an important milestone for Ather. What’s also helping the company is the Delhi Government’s push for EV adoption. The state not only offers high subsidies but also additional breaks in road tax and registration fees. Taking advantage of the same, the company plans to “disrupt the EV market in the national capital” by offering the Ather 450X and 450 Plus at its lowest prices.

With the growing popularity of EVs, it's no surprise that manufacturers such as Ather are trying to cater to the expected demand. The company recently opened its manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. It has an annual capacity of 1,10,000 scooters and 1,20,000 battery packs. This facility serves as the national manufacturing hub for the company.

    EV two-wheeler competition

While Ather Energy is busy ramping up its presence in the country. TVS and Bajaj are also working on expanding their presence by launching their EVs in new markets. Ola Electric is aiming to be another major player in the market, going by its plans that were revealed a few months ago. Ola Electric will launch its first scooter this month.

Another major manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp is also in the process of launching a scooter with battery swapping technology and infrastructure in collaboration with Taiwan's Gogoro.
