Nissan has confirmed that its rival to the Renault Triber will debut in India on December 18. The compact model will slot into the affordable three-row segment and will share its platform with the Triber while getting Nissan-specific styling and features. The upcoming Nissan MPV could be called the Gravite, as the manufacturer filed a trademark for the name in 2023.

Based on what’s known so far, here’s what to expect from Nissan’s new MPV.

1. What's Nissan MPV's exterior design like?

Camouflaged test mules hint at a Triber-like shape with Nissan styling cues.

Spy shots show that the MPV has the same overall shape as the Renault Triber, and the teaser image confirms that much of the design will be similar. The main change up front is a new bumper with silver accents, and Nissan is also expected to give it a revised grille and new alloy wheels.

The headlights appear to have the same shape as the Triber’s, though Nissan may use different lighting signatures to set it apart. At the rear, the MPV is likely to get a different bumper and tweaked tail-lights. Other elements, such as the bonnet and roof rails, look largely unchanged compared to the Triber.

2. What will the Nissan MPV’s interior be like?

A new cabin theme with Triber’s design expected

The interior has not been shown yet, but it is expected to follow the Triber’s layout, with a similar dashboard and three-spoke steering wheel. Nissan may use its own colour scheme to set the cabin apart from the Triber’s grey-and-black theme.

Features are likely to include a 7-inch semi-digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless phone charging, push-button start/stop, and manual AC with vents for the second and third rows. Safety equipment could include six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, hill-start assist, TPMS, and a rear-view camera.

3. What engines will the Nissan MPV get?

Will borrow the Triber’s 1-litre petrol engine

The Nissan MPV is expected to use the 1.0-litre petrol engine that makes 76hp and 95Nm, the same unit seen in the Triber and the lower variants of the Magnite and Kiger. As with all these models, it will be available with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. A CNG version could also be offered later, likely as a dealer-fitted option similar to the Triber.

4. What is the expected price of the Nissan MPV?

Expected pricing to closely match the Renault Triber’s range.

Ex-showroom prices are expected to be similar to the Triber’s. Like the Magnite and Kiger, Nissan is likely to price the new MPV close to its Renault counterpart. The Triber currently costs Rs 5.76 lakh and Rs 8.60 lakh.

The Nissan MPV’s sole rival will be the Renault Triber.
