Sierra’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol comes with manual and dual-clutch automatic gearbox options. It sits in the same performance band as the Victoris, making it a good fit for city use and relaxed commuting. Smooth power delivery and refinement are expected to be its main strengths compared to rival entry-level petrol engines.

The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol comes paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic. This puts the Sierra among the stronger turbo offerings in the segment, on par with the Creta, Seltos, Taigun and Kushaq. The smooth-shifting Aisin automatic should give it an edge in hectic city traffic and highway driving.

The Sierra’s 1.5-litre diesel, offered with both a manual and a 6-speed automatic, helps it stand out, as most rivals in this segment have dropped diesel options. Its fuel efficiency should appeal to users who frequently travel long distances, and the diesel-automatic combo is a selling point over competitors.

Tata Sierra vs rivals: Verdict

Large size, broad powertrain options and competitive pricing

On paper, the Tata Sierra presents a solid package. It is well-equipped, offers multiple powertrain options and has the size and positioning to take on the segment leaders.

The key factors now will be real-world performance, ride comfort and long-term reliability. If it delivers on these fronts, the Sierra should be a strong contender in the midsize SUV segment.
