JSW MG Motor India has announced MG Select, a new sales channel for the brand’s upcoming “premium vehicle” line-up. These showrooms will sell what the company calls “new-age luxury” vehicles.

  1. MG Select to target 12 major cities by first quarter of 2025
  2. Will focus on NEVs and sell vehicles with multiple powertrains
  3. Company also plans to introduce its Select outlets in smaller cities

MG Select outlets to have their own identity

JSW MG Motor says that MG Select will commence operations with 12 major cities by Q1 next year, with more outlets to follow and will cater to a new set of customers for its upcoming premium line-up. These showrooms, with sales and service setups, will have their own identity in terms of dealership aesthetics and communication materials.

And much like Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa outlets, there won’t be a hard price point separating MG products from regular and MG Select dealerships.

Speaking to Autocar India, Gaurav Gupta, chief growth officer at JSW MG Motor India, said, “We will not have a fixed price point to differentiate, but the MG Select products will all be differentiated in terms of the luxury they offer; the luxury is what we call new-age luxury. So, it will be affordable.”

While MG can explore fully imported units for some MG Select products, it will instead focus on locally built models, “We think that (locally assembled) is the right way to go even if you are looking at higher-end models,” said Gupta.

MG Select outlets to focus on NEVs

The MG Select outlets will focus on new energy vehicles (NEVs), i.e., hybrids, plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles. Gupta said that while the share of EVs in overall sales is 2 percent, at the luxury end, it is 7 percent. Thus, the company believes the right direction for the MG Select dealerships is electrified models.

New MG Select premium car showrooms announced Cyberster electric sportscar will likely be one of the models retailed from MG Select.

Interestingly, MG has not chosen to use a separate name for its premium retail line like Maruti did with Nexa and has instead gone with a suffix to the MG brand name. The move will help further propagate the MG brand name, and according to Gupta, the “two will build each other up”.

Cyberster likely to be the first Select model

The company has been tight-lipped about which models it will bring to India and only announced that it will launch four all-new products in the first two years of MG Select’s introduction. We understand that the MG Cyberster sports car, which was shown in India earlier this year, will be the first among them to go on sale in the country as MG will use it as a halo and brand shaper. A promotional video released by MG also shows the silhouette of the Cyberster, thereby hinting that it could be on the cards.

Gupta shared that the existing MG dealers have been invited to open MG Select outlets, and many have shown interest. JSW MG Motor India also plans to introduce the MG Select outlets in smaller cities.
