I am a first-time buyer and prefer a seven-seater. My monthly running is hardly 200 km, but once every three months, I will do a 1,000 km drive with full capacity.

There are multiple seven-seater options available across different price points - the most affordable being a Renault Triber, followed by Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Kia Carens Clavis, and so on.
Since you haven't mentioned your budget, you could click here to find out all the seven-seater cars you have in the market.

I currently own a 2022 Baleno Zeta AGS and am very happy with its mileage, low maintenance, and ease of driving. I want to exchange it for a compact 7-seater that’s easy to maneuver on Bangalore streets and also comfortable for long road trips. I recently drove the Renault Triber and liked its steering and ride quality. My budget is up to ₹10 lakh- should I buy a new compact 7-seater or consider a good second-hand option?

Given your requirements and budget, you have two options. The Renault Triber is well-priced, genuinely practical, versatile and can accommodate up to seven passengers. But its 72hp, 1.0-litre petrol engine feels lethargic, especially when the car's fully loaded.

Alternatively, you could consider the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The Ertiga is more spacious, has a more powerful and refined engine and being a Maruti car, you'll also like the peace of mind it comes with. There are currently two Maruti Ertiga variants (LXi and VXi) that are priced below Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

I am planning to upgrade from a hatchback to preferably an MPV or a sedan. I travel with my senior citizen parents occasionally and with my wife and child usually. Should I choose an MPV or a sedan? Also, are there any new MPVs expected to launch in the Indian market within the budget of a Renault Triber?

Given that your parents will also join in at times, a low-slung sedan is not ideal. An SUV or MPV with a higher-set cabin will make getting into and out of the vehicle significantly easier for your parents.

The Renault Triber is a superbly packaged product offering great space and practicality, and is well-priced too. While there aren't any all-new MPVs within the same budget, Renault's partner Nissan will launch its version of the Triber in 2026. It will get different styling and a unique interior colour theme, but will essentially be the same as a Triber in all other aspects.

Confused between Dzire and Triber. I’m a first-time car buyer and will occasionally travel with 4 adults and 2 kids. I like the Triber’s space and seating, but am concerned about its 1-litre engine and fuel efficiency with AMT. Another option is the Dzire. How does the Dzire’s engine compare with the Triber’s? Which car should I consider?

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has a better engine and smoother gearbox. However, since you will travel with up to 6 passengers, the Dzire is not recommended for you.

The three-row Renault Triber offers seating for up to 7 and is the one to buy. Yes, its 1-litre engine can feel sluggish with a full load, but performance should be given less priority than the safety of dedicated seating for all passengers.

Please suggest a low-budget 7-seater SUV.

The most affordable 7-seater car currently available is the Renault Triber, though it’s technically an MPV. Since you want an SUV, the most affordable option will be the Citroen Aircross X.
The Citroen stands out for its innovative packaging (removable third-row seats), smooth turbo-petrol engine, and composed road manners. You could also consider the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga as an alternative.

I’m interested in buying the new Renault Triber Facelift. Can you guide me on whether it’s worth buying for weekend and long drive use?

The new Renault Triber has been upgraded considerably, with a revamped interior and a striking new exterior design that makes it look fresh and appealing. Its biggest strengths are the price it’s the most affordable seven-seater and the compact dimensions that maximise interior space. For a sub-4-metre MPV, the third row is surprisingly usable and suitable for small kids. However, the 1.0-litre BR10 engine remains unchanged, and while it’s adequate for city use, it feels noisy and underpowered on highways, making overtaking an effort. If you need better highway performance, a used Ertiga would be a stronger option.

My usage is around 100-200 km per month. I have a family of 5. My budget is around ₹10 lakh. Once or twice a year, we go on long route journeys. Please suggest which car is good.

Lower variants of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Mahindra XUV3XO would offer you a spacious cabin for 5. The Mahindra will not be as efficient as the Brezza, but given your lower running this will not make any significant impact on your running costs. If you'd like the option of three rows of seating, you could also get a well-equipped Renault Triber. The third row seats fold and can also be removed fully to offer a spacious car for both passengers and luggage.

Maximum budget ₹8L to 10L. Third row space is a must. The Toyota brand is my first preference.

The Renault Triber is a well-packaged MPV with a good third row. Renault Triber price ranges between ₹6.93 - ₹10.01 Lakh in Chennai, which is within your budget. Your preferred option would be the Toyota Rumion, based on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, but that starts at Rs 12 lakh on-road.
