Mercedes-Benz SL expert review

The Mercedes-AMG SL 55 retains the classic SL roadster proportions, with a long bonnet, short rear deck and muscular haunches that give it a purposeful stance. Sleek LED headlamps and clean surfacing strike a balance between aggression and elegance, ensuring strong road presence without excess.
Under the skin, the SL 55 sits on an advanced all-aluminium platform with adaptive suspension and a four-wheel-drive bias. Engineering emphasis is clearly on dynamic capability, giving the car structural rigidity and chassis tuning suited to enthusiastic driving while retaining everyday usability.
7
The cabin is driver-focused yet indulgent. AMG sport seats with pronounced bolstering provide strong support, complemented by high-quality leather, metal trim and contrast stitching. The environment feels premium without tipping into flamboyance.
Front seat comfort and adjustability are excellent. Rear space is compact and best suited to occasional use, which is typical for a roadster of this type. A clean dashboard layout, large infotainment screen and ambient lighting enhance everyday comfort.
8
Power comes from a 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo petrol engine with mild-hybrid assistance, producing 476hp and 700Nm. Mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox and 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, the SL 55 delivers strong mid-range thrust and effortless acceleration.
Refinement is impressive for an AMG. The V8 emits a rich exhaust note when pushed, yet remains restrained during relaxed cruising, making it suitable for long-distance touring as well as spirited driving.
6
The claimed Mileage for SL is around 7.94kmpl.
7
Ride quality strikes a careful balance. The suspension is firm enough to inspire confidence through fast corners while remaining compliant over urban imperfections. Steering is direct and communicative, helping the SL 55 feel agile and engaging for its size.
8
The SL 55 is well equipped with large digital displays, premium audio and connected technology. Safety equipment includes multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, stability and traction control, adaptive cruise control and advanced driver-assistance systems. Parking sensors and cameras help manage the car’s wide footprint.
7
Priced around Rs 2.34 lakh (ex-showroom), the AMG SL 55 offers a strong blend of sportscar performance and grand-tourer usability. Its engaging dynamics, refined V8 and everyday comfort justify its position in the performance luxury segment, making it appealing to buyers who want excitement without sacrificing usability.
