I currently drive a 2014 Honda City diesel and am planning an upgrade. I am 60, so ease of driving and parking is important. We are considering the Grand Vitara / e-Vitara and the new Seltos, but I am concerned that the Seltos may feel too large for city use (wider body and larger ORVMs). Would it be difficult to manoeuvre and park? Alternatively, would you suggest waiting for the Sierra EV or BYD Atto 2, or are they also likely to be similarly large? I find the Creta and Hyryder well balanced for narrow roads and easy driving (due to their relatively smaller ORVMs). I would appreciate your recommendation.

Given your mostly city use and the need for easy driving and parking, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara or Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Strong Hybrid fits you best from your list. They offer a slightly higher seating position than your 2014 City, so getting in and out is easier, and in traffic the hybrid often moves on electric power first, which makes it very smooth and calm to drive. The size feels friendly in narrow lanes, the mirrors are not bulky, and the steering is light, so slotting into tight spots is simple. If you pick a trim with a 360-degree camera and front sensors, it takes the stress out of parking.On your Seltos worry: in real life it is not meaningfully wider than Creta or Hyryder, and its steering is easy too. The mirrors do look larger, but once you set them and use auto-fold, they don’t get in the way. That said, since you already find the Hyryder comfortable on narrow roads, it (or the Grand Vitara) will feel more comfortable, as it is a bit smaller.Two things to note about these SUVs: the boot is smaller than the petrol-only versions, and when you press hard the engine gets a bit loud and quick highway passes need some planning. As for the Sierra EV, it is larger than all these, while the launch timeline of the BYD Atto 2 is still uncertain.

Go for one of the Maruti cars, ideally the Victoris, as it is the most future-proof choice for your needs. The Victoris and Grand Vitara are essentially similar under the skin, but the Victoris feels a bit more modern inside, with a more premium cabin and better features at a similar price. It is also the newer product, which makes it a safer long-term bet. The only trade-off is slightly lower rear headroom due to the sloping roofline.Now, coming to the Tata Sierra. There is no doubt it is the bigger and more spacious car, with a strong road presence and a very practical cabin. In fact, it is one of the largest in the segment, offering more space and boot capacity than most rivals. However, the concern lies with the naturally aspirated petrol engine. It is smooth and fine for city use, but in a large and heavy SUV like the Sierra, it can feel underpowered and not very effortless, especially when fully loaded or on highways .Given your usage of around 500 km per month and your intention to keep the car for many years, what matters more is reliability, efficiency and ease of ownership, and this is where Maruti clearly has the edge.

I am now planning to upgrade to a new car within a budget of ₹20-25 lakh. Go for a diesel SUV in your case, but also consider a strong hybrid as a serious alternative. With your history of long-distance driving and ownership of a diesel like the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, you are clearly used to the strengths of a diesel: strong low-end torque, relaxed highway cruising and good real-world efficiency. At a Rs 20-25 lakh budget, options like the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos diesel will feel like natural upgrades, offering more power, space and features while retaining that effortless long-distance ability.However, it is worth noting that new-age diesels are not as dramatically efficient as older ones used to be, mainly due to stricter emission norms and heavier vehicles. While they are still more efficient than petrols, the gap has reduced compared to what you may have experienced with your Ciaz.This is where strong hybrids like the Toyota Innova Hycross and Maruti Grand Vitara come into the picture. They offer a very different ownership experience - smooth, quiet, petrol-like driving with excellent real-world efficiency, where you can expect to get in excess of 20 kpl not only on the highway but in the city as well, and without diesel-related concerns like DPF.

Budget permitting, you should go for the Honda Elevate ZX CVT. It is the easiest, most hassle-free upgrade from your Amaze for a mid-size SUV. You are used to a diesel CVT, and the Elevate’s CVT keeps that smooth, calm feel in traffic. The higher seat and good all-around view make city driving and parking simple, and the suspension handles bad roads well. Size-wise, it is not too big, so it is easy to live with, but it still gives you more space and ground clearance than your Amaze. Honda’s engines are reliable, and service quality is generally consistent in most cities.One thing to be aware of is that, coming from a diesel, the Elevate's naturally aspirated petrol engine will not feel as strong at low speeds with a full load or on steep hills, and you will need to press the accelerator more. Also, your monthly use is high, so petrol running costs will be higher than your Amaze diesel.If fuel cost is your top worry at 1,750 km a month, look at the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid, again, budget permitting. It is very smooth and uses a lot less fuel in the city. If you do frequent highway runs with family and luggage and want that strong pull you had in your diesel, the Kia Seltos diesel automatic is the better fit.Do a back-to-back drive. Take four people, climb a flyover and try a quick overtake. If the Elevate’s pull and refinement feel fine to you there, you’ll be happy with it.

Hi, I am planning to buy a car for my elderly parents. My father has been driving a Grand i10 since 2017 and is comfortable with its low ride height and compact size, which makes it easy to drive in a congested city like Delhi where they live. Now, they are looking to upgrade to a hybrid, automatic petrol car within a budget of ₹15 lakh, with very occasional highway trips. Go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi AT mild-hybrid for your parents, it fits the budget, is easy to handle in Delhi traffic, and offers the best balance of smooth driving, safety features and low running costs. Coming from a Grand i10, the Brezza will still feel easy to manoeuvre in tight lanes because it is compact, has light steering and it is a smooth automatic car. The mild-hybrid system helps in stop-and-go traffic by cutting the engine at signals and adding a little electric assist when moving off, so fuel consumption is low without any effort. The seat is a bit higher than their i10, which many older drivers find easier on the knees, and Maruti’s extensive service network in Delhi is a big plus. One thing to keep in mind is that the Brezza is a taller car, so it will feel different from the i10's low seating position. Also, the automatic with the best safety and comfort features may sit near the top of your 15 lakh cap.If fuel efficiency is the top goal and you can stretch the budget, the Grand Vitara strong-hybrid e-CVT is far more efficient in the city, but its price usually sits above your limit, and it is larger to park and manoeuvre.

Since comfort is a priority for you, we would recommend the Tata Sierra. The car has a very spacious cabin, and the seats are very comfy too. Against the Renault Duster, the rear seating space in the Sierra is significantly more. As for mileage, we have yet to put the Renault Duster through our instrumented test cycle. But in any case, if mileage is your top priority ahead of comfort, then you would consider waiting for the hybrid Duster. It is likely to launch this festive season or the diesel Sierra, though with a diesel, it's best for every two to three weeks, you have a long drive of around 20 mins with speeds above 50kph to keep the diesel particulate filter in good health. As an alternative, you can consider the strong hybrid versions of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder or the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, where the mileage would be significantly more. In our real-world tests, the Grand Vitara strong hybrid returned an impressive 23.77kpl in the city and 20.39kpl on the highway. In city traffic, the hybrid system mostly runs on the electric motor. One thing to be aware of: the hybrid’s boot is smaller than some rivals because of the battery, so check your luggage fit.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi AT is the best fit among your options. It uses a smooth torque converter automatic, which is ideal for city traffic and more reliable in the long run. The engine is simple, proven and efficient, and Maruti’s service network and low maintenance costs make ownership very easy. It also offers good ride comfort and a spacious cabin, which adds to its family appeal.The Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet are more feature-rich and feel more modern inside, but both use turbo petrol engines with DCT gearboxes in the automatic versions. These are quicker and more fun to drive, but in heavy city traffic, they are not as smooth and can feel slightly jerky at low speeds.On stretching your budget, the Kia Seltos is a segment above and a better all-round car, but the petrol automatic will go well beyond your budget. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is also appealing, especially in strong hybrid form, but again requires a significant stretch.For your usage and priorities, there is no strong reason to stretch. The Brezza already fits your needs very well.

The key point here is what you are upgrading from. The Ciaz has one of the best rear seats, and at this price point, no SUV really matches that level of rear-seat space and comfort.We would have recommended the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara or the Hyryder, especially since you already own a car from the same brand. However, both are on the weaker side when it comes to rear-seat space and overall comfort, so they will feel like a step down compared to your current car.For a proper upgrade, you are better off looking at the Seltos, Creta or even the Elevate.The Kia Seltos would be the first recommendation. The new generation is a larger car than before, and that reflects in its cabin. It feels more spacious and the rear seat is comfortable enough for family use, making it the closest you will get to a proper upgrade in this segment.The Hyundai Creta is also a very good option. It offers a similar level of comfort and uses the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is refined, smooth and easy to drive. It is slightly smaller on the inside compared to the Seltos, but still comfortable for most family needs.The Honda Elevate is the more sensible and slightly more affordable option. It offers good space and a comfortable ride, and in fact has very good rear seat legroom, but the engine is not as refined as the Kia and Hyundai cars, which you will notice in everyday driving.
