The Maruti Suzuki Eeco comes equipped only with a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol that is also offered with a factory-fitted CNG kit. The engine sits under the front seats and drives the rear wheels. As per us, it is built for practicality rather than refinement, and engine noise is higher than in modern MPVs.

Key facts for the Eeco:

The 1,197cc K-series petrol engine makes 80hp and 105.5Nm. On CNG, output drops to 70hp and 95Nm. The petrol engine is E20 compliant.
Every variant gets a 5-speed manual. There is no automatic.
It measures 3,675mm long, 1,475mm wide and 1,825mm tall, with a 2,350mm wheelbase and 160mm of ground clearance.
The turning radius is just 4.5m. Hence, it is quite easy to manoeuvre this car in tight lanes.
The front suspension uses MacPherson struts, with disc brakes at the front and drums at the rear.
Every variant runs on 13-inch steel wheels with 155-section tyres. You also get a full-size spare.
The petrol tank holds 32 litres. The petrol versions weigh 970kg, while the CNG version weighs 1,085kg.

Heat problem affecting in front cabin because of the engine is under the front left side seat..you cannot drive this vehicle without a/c comfortly..no eeco model comes with power steering is also a demerit.the main demerit of this vehicle is the suspension system is old and basic which is utterly irritating..in local roads..no centre lock,no power window..reduces the rating..

The reason the Maruti Eeco 6-seater Standard variant is not offered with factory-fitted AC is largely a cost and positioning decision by Maruti. It is worth noting that this restriction is specific to the 6-seater Standard variant. The 5-seater versions of the Eeco are available with factory-fitted AC, so Maruti is not avoiding AC altogether on the model.As for adding AC later, yes, it is technically possible to fit an aftermarket AC, and many owners have done so. However, we would generally not recommend it. Factory-fitted AC systems are integrated with the engine calibration, wiring, dashboard layout and cooling system. An aftermarket setup may not cool as effectively, can affect reliability and could create issues with electrical components over the long term if not installed properly.If AC is important to you, the better solution is to buy an Eeco variant that comes with factory fitted AC from the outset or go for alternatives like the Renault Triber or the Nissan Gravite.

I am planning to buy a 7-seater and have two options. Option 1 is buying a new Eeco. Option 2 is a Renault Lodgy owned by my friend, which is 10 years old and has been driven 1,10,000 km. Which is the better option?

The Renault Lodgy is clearly the bigger of the two and would offer you more space and comfort, however bear in mind that maintaining a used Renault Lodgy is going to be more difficult than the Maruti Suzuki Eeco as parts availability is an issue even with official Renault car dealers, further given that the Lodgy never sold in large number finding parts in the aftermarket will be difficult too.Thus, it is best to avoid it unless you are very certain of the condition of the car and the availability of parts and service in your area.
