Both the Mahindra Vision S and next-generation Tata Nexon (project Garud) are expected to arrive in 2027, so this is one of those cases where waiting could be worthwhile. The new Nexon is expected to get a completely new design and heavily revised platform, while Mahindra’s Vision S will be a sub-4m SUV on the new NU_IQ architecture. Mahindra has confirmed that its NU_IQ based SUVs will begin production from 2027.The Vision S is particularly interesting because Mahindra has confirmed a 2,665mm wheelbase despite keeping it under four metres, which should translate into a very spacious cabin. The production version is expected to rival the 3XO, Nexon, Brezza and Kylaq.The current Mahindra XUV 3XO and Tata Nexon are still perfectly good choices if you need a car immediately, and there is no guarantee that the new-generation models will be better in every respect. But if your purchase isn't urgent, it is worth waiting a bit longer.

Both cars would suit your requirements well -16-18km, 3 days a week on Bangalore’s Outer Ring Road plus a couple of highway trips a month - so you can't really go wrong with either car. On your concerns: the Kylaq’s AC is adequate for Bangalore conditions. The higher maintenance cost post-warranty is a valid consideration, but it is not dramatically higher than Mahindra if you maintain the car properly and stick to authorised service. EPC errors and limp mode are not widespread issues on the Kylaq; they are rare and usually resolved under warranty. The 3XO is not immune to reliability issues either, so it should not be the deciding factor.Between the two, if you want a more nimble and fun to drive car opt for the Kylaq and if rear seat space is important go with the 3XO.

The issue you are describing on your Mahindra XUV 3XO manual, a momentary hitch or resistance when shifting between 1st and 2nd, while other shifts are fine, does seem to indicate a cable issue, rather than a clutch or gearbox-wide issue. Since the problem has not gone away with the cable adjustment, ask the center to replace the cables and associated shift-gate mechanisms like the bushes. Only accept the car if the problem is entirely cured. Your car is under warranty, so you should get any issues resolved early; left unattended, they could worsen.Ask the service center to also check the gearbox mounting, and if the issue persists after all this, ask them to inspect the 1st-2nd gear synchroniser. But this would mean a larger job involving opening of the gearbox. The key though is to focus the diagnosis and cure the issue soon rather than just repeated cable adjustments.

Go for the Honda Elevate V CVT. Your usage is low (3,000–5,000km a year), with a 60% city bias and a 15-year ownership plan, so reliability and ease of ownership matter more than outright performance. The Elevate’s naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with the CVT is a proven, simple and dependable combination that should age well over a long ownership period. It is also smoother in stop-start city traffic, which is where you will spend most of your time.The XUV 3XO AX5L is the better value package on paper, with more features and a stronger turbo-petrol engine paired with a torque converter automatic. However, turbocharged engines are inherently more complex, and the Honda still feels like the safer long-term bet for a 15-year ownership horizon.On the seating position, the Elevate’s cabin is slightly more accommodating for taller drivers, as it is a larger car than the Mahindra XUV 3XO.
