I own a Dzire petrol car and want to replace it with a new petrol car. Please suggest the best petrol car in the ₹10-12 lakh range.

Without knowing your exact requirements, it would be hard to recommend one. If you've had a good experience with your Maruti Dzire, it might be worth considering the new-gen Dzire, which comes feature-packed. It also has received a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP. Plus, this Maruti car also gets a smooth and efficient 1.2-litre petrol engine that can be had with either a 5-speed manual or AMT auto gearbox options.
If you prefer a hatchback, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai i20 are good options in this budget. As for compact SUVs, there are a plethora of options available like the Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, and more.

I want to buy a new Mahindra XUV 3XO but am confused between the petrol and diesel variants. My monthly average run is 400-500 km. Which fuel option should I choose?

Since your running isn't high - only around 6,000km a year - it would make sense for you to opt for the petrol.

The higher purchase price of the diesel won't be justified given your usage. For reference, the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7L for the petrol-manual variant costs Rs 12.75 lakh and Rs 13.43 lakh for the diesel-manual (ex-showroom), and the price delta will only be greater when it comes to on-road prices.

My budget is around 12-13 lakh, and my running is 20 km every day and once in three months, outstation. I am looking for a petrol car with good power, ample cabin space and low maintenance cost. Which will be good among these: Mahindra 3XO, Kia Sonet, Brezza, Nexon, and Venue?

You should consider the Mahindra XUV 3XO as it meets all your requirements. It falls within your budget, and is equipped with a powerful 131hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that can be had with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.
This Mahindra car also has a spacious cabin which can accommodate three adults at the back, and it's relatively easy to maintain as well.

I want to buy a new car. I have shortlisted three cars: Maruti Ertiga, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and Tata Sierra. I want a petrol model with a manual gearbox, good mileage, good safety features, and the ability to handle both local and occasional long drives. Please advise.

All three cars listed are very different - the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is a no-nonsense seven-seater MPV; the XUV3XO is a turbo-petrol compact SUV with excellent ride and handling balance; and the Tata Sierra is a mid-size SUV which is likely to offer the most space and feel the most premium of the lot.
You don't seem to have a definitive requirement for a seven-seater since two out of the three cars you've listed can only seat five; the only reason to consider an Ertiga is for its fuel efficiency.
If that is something you can overlook, we'd recommend you shortlist the Mahindra XUV 3XO and Sierra. Out of these, even though the Mahindra car is likely to be punchier and more fun to drive, the Sierra's larger size and more cabin space are likely to deliver a nicer drive and cabin experience, making you feel like you've spent your money well.
The Sierra's NA petrol isn't likely to be much more efficient than the Mahindra's turbo-petrol, due to the Tata's heavier kerb weight; however, between the two, it is the one we'd recommend.

I am planning to buy a car. My maximum budget is Rs 10.5-11 lakh on-road. I am looking for an SUV with good performance, 5-star safety, and decent mileage. My monthly usage will be around 500 to 800 km, with a 1,000 km trip every three months. Should I choose diesel or petrol? I like turbo engines. My shortlist includes the XUV3XO Diesel or Petrol MX2, and the Skoda Kylaq Signature. I am concerned about Skoda’s maintenance costs. Are there other options?

Your monthly usage isn't much, hence a diesel might not justify the premium it commands over a corresponding turbo-petrol. Between the two options shortlisted, the Skoda Kylaq feels a bit nicer and more fun to drive. While the Mahindra XUV 3XO isn't too far behind in terms of ride comfort and handling, it is the one to go for should you need to travel with 4 or 5 adults often, since it is more spacious. Otherwise, the Kylaq is a good option.

As far as maintenance goes, the Skoda's upkeep costs are similar to most other compact SUVs, and even parts are priced competitively due to the high levels of localization. Furthermore, Skoda has provided a service cost calculator on its website to give you an idea of how much you are likely to pay per service.

Hello Car Expert, I’m planning to purchase a new car in 2026 and can wait up to a year. My driving is mostly within the city, so I need a spacious, comfortable car with modern features and an automatic transmission. My on-road budget is capped at ₹15 lakh, and my yearly usage is around 5,000-6,000 km. I’m considering the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Skoda Kylaq, and Kia Sonet, but I may have missed other suitable options.

Of your three shortlisted cars, the Mahindra XUV 3XO checks the most boxes. It has a very spacious cabin - although not a very spacious boot - and has a comfortable ride and loads of features.

As for longevity, any car can be kept for 10+ years if you drive it carefully, maintain it well and have it serviced regularly. That said, Mahindra's aftersales and service isn't as well-regarded as, say, Maruti or Hyundai's, so that's something to keep in mind.

You should also consider the newly launched Hyundai Venue, which also meets all your requirements very well, and comes with more modern tech inside the cabin.

70-30% city-highway driving (learned driving recently), automatic, Rs 11-12 lakh ex-showroom budget, moderate road conditions, safety should be good, average monthly running of 800-1,000 km, mainly 4-seater (occasionally 5). I have shortlisted the XUV 3XO AX5 TC 1.2L (TCMPFi) and the Sonet HTX DCT 1.0L (GDi). I am also open to the Sonet iMT, but I have heard mixed reviews about its reliability. Hyundai is not offering it in the new Venue, which adds to the confusion.

The Mahindra's Turbo-petrol and torque converter (automatic) combination is smoother than the Kia's turbo-petrol and dual-clutch automatic combination. Furthermore, the Mahindra XUV 3XO is a well-built, solid car which feels confident at all speeds and even over the worst of road conditions.
It'll also be more comfortable for the occasional fifth passenger. Yes, the touch and feel, as well as the Kia Sonet's interior quality, feels superior to the XUV3XO, but on the whole, it is the Mahindra car that we'd recommend.

I am planning to buy a new petrol automatic car with a budget of ₹15-17 lakh. My usage is mostly city driving, and I prioritise efficiency over features and aesthetics, as long as the performance is good. I’m considering the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Skoda Kylaq. I also like the Toyota Hyryder for its hybrid efficiency, but it exceeds my budget. Which car would suit me best?

All the compact SUV options you've listed are powered by turbo-petrol engines, and since you are looking for efficiency, be warned, in typical city driving (stop-go conditions), these turbo-petrol engines aren't likely to be very efficient.

Also, these are very sensitive to the driving style and ambient conditions, which can drop the mileage down to single digits. Among the options you've listed, the Mahindra XUV3XO 1.2 Turbo (MPI) AT is likely to satiate your need for performance while offering a smoother and comfortable experience overall.

Another option you may consider is the Citroen Basalt X/Aircross X, provided there is a Citroen touchpoint in your city. However, if you want to keep the running costs down at all costs without sacrificing performance, go for the Tata Nexon EV 45.

Hi. I’m looking for an automatic car with an on-road budget of around ₹15 lakh. It must have a strong safety rating, decent mileage, reliable after-sales service, and affordable, readily available spare parts. I’m interested in the Tata Sierra but have read mixed reviews about its service and build quality and am unsure how accurate they are. My annual run will be low (about 5–7k km), mostly on highways. Please advise.

While the Tata Sierra is an impressive-looking SUV, we have yet to drive it on the road and experience its performance.

Also, the price list for all the variants is not out yet, so it’s uncertain which variant will be available within your ₹15 lakh budget.

Tata's after-sales and service support does have some catching up to do in comparison to Maruti and Hyundai. If you really liked the way the Sierra looks and what it offers, it would be worth waiting for.

However, if it does not turn out as per your requirements, the Mahindra XUV 3XO in AX5 L variant is very good. It has a smooth powertrain and a good feature list, along with a spacious rear seat and low maintenance costs.

I own a 2019 Glanza with about 70,000 km on the clock and want to switch to a sub-compact SUV. My monthly running is around 1,500 km, mostly on village roads with occasional highway trips. I’m considering the Sonet diesel because of the mileage, and I’ve also seen the new Venue but it’s pricier than before. Is the Sonet diesel a good choice, or do you recommend another model in this segment? My budget is about ₹14 lakh.

The Kia Sonet diesel is a good option, and you can safely go ahead with this.

However, if rear space is important to you, then you will find this very tight in the Sonet, especially so in comparison to your Toyota Glanza. If this is an issue for you, then you could consider the new Hyundai Venue; rear space is better, and on the whole, the car is a better option too.

However, if you are not keen on the Venue, then you could consider the Mahindra 3XO, which has good space as well as offers a good ride along with engine performance.
