Hi all, I’m planning to upgrade my 2013 Hyundai i10 to a stronger and safer vehicle. I live in Pune and plan to take monthly long-distance trips. My initial choices were the Kia Seltos and Renault Duster, but concerns about E20 or higher petrol blends have made me reconsider buying a pure petrol car. As a result, I’m now considering EVs. The Tata Punch.ev top model seems like an excellent value proposition, but is it a sensible choice for long-distance highway trips, such as Pune to Hyderabad or Goa? I would appreciate your insights and recommendations. I usually travel with my wife and occasionally with a full load.
For long drives from Pune to Goa or Hyderabad in any EV, you will be required to quickly charge once along the way, to reach your destination comfortably, without any range anxiety. The Punch EV is an excellent choice - it is compact, value-for-money, and its real-world range of over 300km is rather good. Kia will be launching the Syros EV in the coming weeks. The Syros is surprisingly spacious, interior quality is top-notch, and going by the Clavis EV's efficient and smooth powertrain, the EV version of the Syros will certainly be worth considering. Go for the EVs only if you can arrange for home charging. If not, then the Kia Seltos will be our pick. It is comfortable, spacious, feature-rich, and the petrol is smooth, refined and more efficient than the Renault Duster. The Duster's ride-handling balance is outstanding and its boot is larger than the Seltos too, however the Kia comes across as the more rounded option.
I want to buy a car for my office commute and occasional short road trips around Bangalore. I am considering an EV and am confused between waiting for the Kia Syros EV or going ahead with the Tata Punch EV Facelift. Which option would you recommend?
If you're referring to the Kia Syros EV, it may be worth waiting if you're not in a hurry. Given what we've already seen with the Syros ICE, the Syros EV is expected to offer significantly more cabin space and practicality than the Punch EV. In fact, the Syros is closer to the Nexon in terms of overall size and interior room, so the EV version is likely to appeal to buyers looking for a more spacious family car.The trade-off is that the Syros EV will almost certainly be more expensive than the Punch EV and is expected to be positioned closer to the Nexon EV in terms of battery size, range and pricing. For your usage of office commutes and occasional road trips around Bangalore, the Punch EV facelift is already a very well-rounded product. It is well priced, easy to drive in the city and offers enough range for most use cases.
I currently own a 2025 Kia Seltos petrol and a 2012 Wagon R LPG. I want to replace the Wagon R with an EV. My budget is up to Rs 12 lakh, and I am open to battery subscription options. Usage includes city, rural and highway roads with daily running of around 60-65km. I am confused between the Tata Punch EV and the MG Windsor. Also, is there any news about a Kia Syros EV or a sub-4m Hyundai EV?
The Tata Punch EV is an excellent option. It feels solid on broken roads, has good ground clearance, and its small size makes tight city lanes and parking easy. The range is more than enough for your 60-65 km daily run with a safe buffer. The MG Windsor you mentioned is significantly larger in size, so unless you need that extra cabin and boot space, we'd recommend opting for the more compact Punch EV instead. The Kia Syros EV is likely to be launched in August. If you can, wait for it. It could be worth considering.
