Honda ALPHA Expert Review
Honda ALPHA What to Expect
Honda has said that the Alpha's design will be influenced by the 0 Alpha SUV. The Honda Alpha will get a sharply raked front and an upright rear. While all of this looks radical, it is also expected to make the Alpha look unique and may help its identity in the segment. The lighting elements are still under wraps, but what is known is that these will be all-LED units.
Honda is generally known to offer a spacious cabin, and the upcoming Alpha seems to be no different. Toshikazu Hirose, a chief engineer at Honda Motor Co., said the wheelbase will be around 2700mm to 2800mm, which will not only enable good cabin space, but also is expected to account for a sizeable boot.
An interior spy shot has revealed a massive infotainment touchscreen and a smaller driver’s display screen, which are expected to make the Alpha feel very modern. It also gets a 3-spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters for regen modes, and some buttons can also be seen on the centre console, the latter of which is always a welcome addition.
While detailed specifications are yet to be revealed, Hirose has said the battery pack options would be competitive and, hence, likely to be 65kWh to 75kWh units. A front-axle-mounted electric motor will be paired with the battery packs, but the performance figures are yet to be revealed.
In rival midsize EVs, the 65kWh to 75kWh battery pack units offer a claimed range of around 500km, with competitors like Mahindra BE 6 and Tata Sierra EV offering over 600km claimed range. If Honda manages to offer such a range, the Alpha could provide good competition to the well-established midsize eSUV rivals.
Honda cars are generally known for their pliant ride quality and good handling balance, and the Alpha is also expected to offer that. However, a correct assessment can be made once we have our hands on the EV.
The Honda Alpha is slated to debut on December 2, and it is still not known whether the manufacturer will be revealing prices of the eSUV that day. Hence, getting your hands on the Alpha is expected to take time. If you are in no hurry, you can wait for the Honda Alpha to make an informed decision. If not, there are a lot of EVs in the midsize space that you can choose from.
