Volkswagen has unveiled the ID Polo GTI as the first electric model with the performance-oriented GTI badge. It is offered with the higher-spec 52kWh battery of the recently revealed standard Polo EV, but with a more powerful motor. Compared to the standard all-electric Polo, it gets new design elements, a new black-and-red interior theme, adaptive suspension and a front locking differential.
- Offers with a claimed range of 424km, 30km less than the standard ID Polo
- Gets GTI-specific design elements outside, including larger 19-inch alloys
- Inside, it gets a new theme and dual digital displays with retro-inspired UI
Volkswagen ID Polo GTI powertrain
Gets a more powerful motor than the standard Polo EV, but claims a lower range
The Volkswagen Polo GTI is offered with a 52kWh battery pack with a WLTP-claimed range of 424km. It is paired with a front-axle-mounted (FWD) electric motor that produces 226hp and 229Nm. Volkswagen claims a 0-100kph run time of 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 175kph. The ID Polo GTI supports 105kW DC charging, which can recharge the battery from 10-80 percent in 24 minutes.

Notably, the standard Polo EV is also offered with the same 52kWh battery alongside a lower-spec 37kWh version. But on the standard version, the 52kWh battery variants produce 15hp less than the GTI model, but it claims a 30km higher range on a full charge.
The ID Polo GTI gets Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) suspension as standard, which is the manufacturer’s term for adaptive dampers, as well as an electronically-lockable front differential borrowed from the ICE-powered Golf GTI. It also gets a new GTI driving profile that tweaks the chassis and drive systems to a sportier setup at the touch of a button.
Volkswagen ID Polo GTI exterior design
Gets new Matric LED headlights, fresh bumpers and rims and a redesigned spoiler

The Volkswagen ID Polo GTI is based on the standard Polo EV and hence has the same silhouette. However, it gets new Matrix LED headlights, redesigned 19-inch alloy wheels, a fresh roof-mounted spoiler with a centre split and more aggressive-looking front and rear bumpers. It also gets GTI badges and a red strip above the front bumper for that distinct GTI identity.

Everything else is the same, including the connected LED lightbar at the front, connected LED taillights and illuminated VW logos at the front and rear. Other similar design elements include black outside rearview mirror (ORVM) covers and C-pillar-mounted door handles on the rear doors.
Here are the differences in dimensions and specifications between the ID Polo GTI and the standard EV:
Volkswagen ID Polo GTI interior design and features
Gets a black and red cabin theme, GTI badges and contrasting red stitching
The cabin layout of the ID Polo GTI is similar to the non-GTI version, with the only differences being a darker black and red theme, GTI badges on the seat backrest and steering, and a red stitching on seats, steering wheel and door pads. There’s also a shiny silver trim on the centre of the dashboard, which has a lighter hue on the standard ID Polo.

Everything else is the same, including a 10.25-inch driver’s display with retro-themed virtual dials, a 12.9-inch infotainment system, a wireless phone charger, and dual-zone climate control. Optional features are also the same, including a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, 12-step powered front seats with massage function, and a fixed panoramic glass roof.
Volkswagen has stated that the ID Polo GTI will launch in Germany in autumn 2026, “at a price of just under 39,000 euros”, which roughly converts to Rs 43 lakh before taxes and duties.
