Volkswagen ID Every 1 concept revealed

After numerous teasers, Volkswagen has finally unveiled the ID Every1 concept that previews the brand’s most affordable EV due in 2027. Described by Volkswagen as a model that’s “from Europe for Europe”, the ID Every1 is a spiritual successor to the Volkswagen Up, and will be the new entry point to the German carmaker’s ID range of electric cars.

Near production-spec design

Volkswagen says the production version of the ID Every1 wouldn’t be too far from this concept. The proportions of the hatchback are certainly a nod to the Up; the face has a similar 'smile' with the blacked-out faux upper grille, large LED headlamps and a contrasting black trim on the bumper below. The rounded fascia is further complemented by vertical LED Daytime Running Lamps on the edges of the bumper, and the blacked-out A-pillar creates a wraparound effect for the windscreen.

Over to the side, the wheel arches are slightly sculpted, but it's devoid of aggressive character lines. The simple bodywork, Volkswagen says, is to give the car a “timeless” and “classless” design. The concept also sports flush door handles and 19-inch wheels, and the C-pillar design is a nod to the first-gen Golf, as per Volkswagen.

Slightly smaller than ID 2all concept

The rear end mimics the front end with a very similar design for the tail-lamps and the bumper, and there’s a third brake light integrated into the spoiler. The ID Every1 measures 3,880mm long, which is slightly smaller than the 4,050mm ID 2all concept. Volkswagen says that up to the A-pillars, the ID Every1 is largely similar to the ID 2all concept, but it gets a shorter wheelbase and a smaller battery.

Volkswagen ID Every1 interior and features

Minimalist four-seat interior

As with most modern EVs, the interior of the ID Every1 concept is minimal, and is dominated by a large floating infotainment screen. Thankfully, there’s a band of physical buttons just below for functions like temperature, heating and volume controls. Other highlights include a new two-spoke squared-out steering wheel, AC vents that mimic the headlamp design and a centre console that’s mounted on rails so that it can be slid from the front to the rear compartment.

It also features a removable Bluetooth speaker mounted between the driver and passenger, and the front passenger has access to a variable multi-purpose panel to which different items, such as a tablet or a shelf, can be attached. Volkswagen describes the ID Every1 as a four-seater.

Software-defined vehicle architecture

What’s also notable is that the ID Every1 is the first Volkswagen Group model to benefit from a completely new software architecture that has been developed through a new joint venture with American EV startup Rivian. The system is intended to be highly flexible, so it can be stripped down for the ID Every1, while more premium models can offer a lot more. The system is also compatible with over-the-air updates, so more features can be added at an additional cost, should the customer so desire.

Volkswagen ID Every1 platform, battery and range

Will have a top speed of 130kph

The production version of the ID Every1 will sit on a modified version of the new front-wheel-drive MEB Entry platform. Volkswagen hasn’t given out all technical details yet, but says the newly developed electric motor produces 95hp and gives the car a claimed top speed of 130kph. Volkswagen also hasn’t provided any battery capacity details or what chemistry it will use, but claims the model will offer a range of “at least” 250km.
