Renault-owned Dacia has rolled out key powertrain upgrades for its Spring EV, essentially a Kwid-sized hatchback sold internationally. The Dacia Spring EV was revealed in 2021, and the Romanian carmaker has introduced updates annually since then. The electric vehicle’s last update was marked by Duster SUV-like illumination bits, along with a revamped interior and ADAS tech.

  1. The 2025 Spring EV comes with 70hp and 100hp motor options
  2. Its 24.3kWh LFP battery can charge from 20 to 80 percent in 29 minutes

2025 Dacia Spring EV updates

More powerful e-motors

New 70hp (+25hp) and 100hp (+35hp) electric motor options replace the previous 45hp and 65hp units. These offer over 20 percent more power and torque between 80kph and 120kph. As a result, the Spring EV can travel with ease outside of towns and fit naturally into road and motorway traffic, providing a more comfortable driving experience, claims Dacia.

All-new LFP battery

Dacia has also equipped the Spring EV with a new 24.3kWh battery, which uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, a first for any Renault Group vehicle, providing a 225km range (on the WLTP with 15-inch wheels). LFP batteries are said to cut costs, last longer and improve thermal safety compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries. The car’s older 26.8kWh battery pack returned a similar 225km range. However, the 2025 Spring EV supports a maximum charging speed of 40kW, which is up by 10kW; a top-up from 20 to 80 percent takes 29 minutes, and a 7kW charger takes 3.2 hours for the same.

Roll bar as standard

The all-electric Spring also gains an anti-roll bar for the first time, and it’s standard on all variants. As per the carmaker, the car’s stability in corners has consequently improved, further enhanced by the new settings for the shock absorbers and suspension springs.

Renault compact EV India launch expectations

Launch timeline unavailable

In 2023, Renault India MD Venkatram Mamillapalle told Autocar India that a CMF-A platform-based electric vehicle (CMF-A also underpins the Spring EV) could launch here in 2024 or 2025, but an exact timeline was not confirmed by him. As of now, there is no information about the launch of an electric version of the Renault Kwid, though some spy shots of a camouflaged test mule have emerged online recently. If brought to India, it’ll rival the likes of the MG Comet EV and Tata Tiago EV.
