Tesla’s entry-level Model Y and Model 3 EVs will no longer come with the lane-keeping assist (Autosteer in brand speak) feature as standard in the US. Autosteer keeps the vehicle centred in its lane while detecting lane markings, vehicles and objects. To get the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) feature, buyers will now be forced to opt for the company’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) suite at a monthly subscription of USD 99 (Rs 9,100); it’s available as a one-time purchase for USD 8,000 (Rs 7.34 lakh), though that option is going away on February 14.

  1. FSD is a Rs 6 lakh option for the Model Y in India
  2. Model S, Model X get FSD as standard in the US

“I should also mention that the $99/month for supervised FSD will rise as FSD’s capabilities improve. The massive value jump is when you can be on your phone or sleeping for the entire ride (unsupervised FSD),” Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted last week.

Traffic-Aware Cruise Control still available

Maintains a set speed

Notably, the standard Autopilot system still has the Traffic-Aware Cruise Control (TACC) feature, which detects vehicles ahead in the same lane and maintains a set speed. If a vehicle is detected, it automatically slows down to keep a safe, driver-selected distance. It was the combination of Autosteer and Traffic-Aware Cruise Control that enabled a largely autonomous driving experience on highways, though still requiring the driver to stay attentive and take control when necessary.

More premium Tesla EVs, such as the Model S and Model X, come with FSD as standard (under the Luxe Package), so the change does not affect them. On the other hand, the base Cybertruck AWD variant offers FSD as an optional extra, just like the Model Y and Model 3, but its top-spec Cyberbeast trim gets the autonomous driving feature as standard.

What about Tesla Model Y on sale in India?

Only TACC mentioned on Tesla India website

Tesla Model Y India price

The Tesla India website does not list Autopilot and mentions only Traffic-Aware Cruise Control. The Full Self-Driving option is priced at Rs 6 lakh but will be enabled only once Indian regulations permit it, though its real-world usability here remains uncertain. A subscription option for FSD is also not available in India as of now.

Converted INR values mentioned above are as of 12:03pm on January 28, 2026.
