The Tata Punch is one of the most eagerly anticipated launches from the carmaker’s stables this year. In the lead up to its launch in the festive season, Tata has been releasing teaser images to build excitement, and has finally revealed the rear styling of the production-spec Punch.

2021 Tata Punch: final design stays true to the concept
In terms of styling, the Tata Punch has stayed true to the HBX concept on which it is based, and the newly revealed rear design is no different. The sculpted tailgate, integrated roof spoiler and the tail-lights with the Y-shaped LED elements are near-identical to the ones seen on the HBX. The only area where the Punch differs from the concept is the rear bumper, which has been toned-down for the production model. Gone is the large silver skid plate, and in its place, the Punch’s rear bumper sports a simpler diffuser-like design.
Tata revealed the front styling when it announced the Punch nameplate earlier this month. Up front, the Punch features a split-headlight setup that’s reminiscent of the Harrier and Safari. The rest of the styling is a toned-down version of the HBX, as it retains the dual-tone colour scheme, squared-off wheel arches and upright stance, though drops the off-road-oriented chunky body cladding and tyres. The interior design is yet to be officially revealed by Tata, though spy pictures of the Punch suggest it will also be similar to that of the HBX concept.
2021 Tata Punch: expected powertrain details
Under the hood, the Punch will get a choice of two petrol engines. Lower trims are expected to use the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, while there are talks of higher trims getting the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine seen in the Altroz iTurbo. Gearbox options for the Punch are expected to include both, a 5-speed manual and an AMT automatic.
2021 Tata Punch: competition check
Once launched, the Tata Punch will directly rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis , Mahindra KUV100 and the upcoming Hyundai Casper. However, the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger will also offer competition due to their extremely competitive pricing.
