The Porsche 911 GT3 has set a new record for the fastest lap in a manual car at the famed Nurburgring Nordschleife. Helmed by former racing driver Jörg Bergmeister and equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the facelifted 992.2 911 GT3 went around the 20.832km circuit in 6 minutes and 56.294 seconds.

The 911 GT3 is powered by a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-6 engine developing 510hp and 450Nm. Porsche revealed that the 911 GT3 used for the Nurburgring attempt was equipped with the optional Weissach Package, which sheds 12kg over the standard model, and was shod with road-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres – 255/35 R20 at the front, 315/30 R21 at the rear.

Prior record holder Viper ACR beaten by 9.5 second margin
The former fastest manual car around the Nurburgring – the 845hp, V10-powered Dodge Viper ACR – clocked a 7 minute 1.3 seconds Nurburgring lap time back in 2017. However, this record was set on the shorter 20.6km Nordschleife layout, and Porsche estimates a 7 minute 5.8 second lap time for the Viper ACR for the full-length 20.832km circuit.
Compared to this number, the 911 GT3 outpaced the Viper ACR by a whopping 9.5 seconds. The manual 911 GT3 was also 3.633 seconds quicker than the pre-facelift 992 911 GT3, which was tested with a PDK 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Additionally, the new 911 GT3 surpassed the Porsche 918 Spyder’s Nurburgring lap time of 6 minutes and 57 seconds, an impressive feat considering the latter was the German carmaker’s halo model, has a 377hp advantage, and is all-wheel drive. The 911 GT3 also trounced the 1,914hp, all-electric Rimac Nevera's Nurburgring lap time by 9 seconds.
In the Porsche 911 hierarchy, the manual 992.2 GT3 ranks the fourth-fastest around the Nurburgring, with the 991.2 GT2 RS’ 6 minute and 43.3 seconds Nordschleife lap time still reigning supreme.
