Nissan X Trail India launch details

Nissan just unveiled the fourth-gen X-Trail SUV in India yesterday, and we can now confirm that it will be launched on August 1. The X-Trail is being brought to India as a CBU, so it will have a premium positioning like the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian. Crucially, the X-Trail will help keep Nissan's cash registers ringing until its mainstream SUVs arrive from 2025 onwards.

  1. X-Trail to be offered in three-row 7-seater guise
  2. Gets an 8-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital driver's display
  3. To rival the likes of Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian

India-spec Nissan X-Trail details

In India, the X-Trail will be offered by a sole 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that also comes with a 12V mild-hybrid system; total output is rated at 163hp and 300Nm. The engine will be paired to a shift-by-wire CVT auto gearbox that sends drive to just the front wheels. The X-Trail also gets an AWD variant overseas, but that’s not coming to India.

In terms of features, the X-Trail will have a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment, a 12.3-inch digital driver's display, wireless smartphone charger, keyless entry and go, drive modes, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, cruise control, and a 360-degree camera. Safety features will include 7 airbags, auto wipers, traction control, hill start assist, and front and rear parking sensors.

Notably, the X-Trail will be offered in a 7-seater configuration in India. The second row has a 40/20/40 split-folding, sliding and reclining function, while the third row gets 50/50 split-folding and reclining functions. Rivals Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian also come with a three-row setup.

Exterior paint shades, however, will be limited to just three choices – Diamond Black, Champagne Silver and Pearl White – and it will be riding on 20-inch alloy wheels.

Nissan X-Trail expected price

Being a CBU, the X-Trail will no doubt be expensive. We expect it to range between Rs 40 lakh-45 lakh, ex-showroom. For reference, the Jeep Meridian is priced between Rs 29.49 lakh-39.83 lakh, while the Skoda Kodiaq is priced at Rs 39.99 lakh; the Jeep is locally manufactured in India while the Skoda is a CKD.
