BMW has confirmed that its second-generation iX3 electric SUV will be revealed on September 5, 2025. Previewed by the 2024 Vision Neue Klasse X concept, the new iX3 is the first model in the BMW Neue Klasse (or new class) range of EVs, built to offer significant improvements in range, functionality and cost. The 2025 BMW iX3 will rival the likes of the Audi Q6 e-tron and the upcoming Mercedes GLC EV.

All Neue Klasse cars, including the iX3, will be underpinned by the BMW Gen6 architecture. Unlike the upcoming iX3, the present SUV is an EV conversion of the regular CLAR-based BMW X3. BMW said these models will come with 800V fast-charging support and will have batteries that are 20 percent more energy-dense than the existing ones. The new iX3’s battery details, along with motor specs, were under wraps at the time of writing. Previous test mules, though, returned impressive figures of 900km (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle) and 800km (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure). They even allowed for a 350km range top-up in just 10 minutes of charge.

For reference, the current iX3 sold in international markets packs a 286hp rear-wheel-drive motor paired with an 80kWh battery (74kWh net) that has 400V compatibility. The e-SUV returns a maximum range of 461km on the WLTP, and a 100km range top-up can be done in 10 minutes with a 350kW charger.

The Vision Neue Klasse X prototypes seen earlier had a sealed-off nose, an illuminated kidney grille and slanting LED daytime running lamps. The side profile has smooth door panels and flush-fitting door handles. Reportedly, the new iX3 could be slightly longer and wider than the outgoing model. The rear section features slim horizontal tail-lamps, which aren’t connected. Overall, many design cues have been borrowed from the BMW iX flagship.
