Ahead of the all-electric M9’s launch, JSW-MG Motor India has officially revealed its detailed specifications, including battery size, range and features. M9 bookings have been open since May for a token amount of Rs 51,000 via MG Select, the brand’s premium retail network. The first MPV in India from MG is expected to be priced at around Rs 65 lakh, ex-showroom.

MG has fitted a 90kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery under the floor of the M9. Compared to lithium iron phosphate batteries, those using NMC cell chemistry offer higher energy density. This unit powers a 245hp, 350Nm motor mounted on the front axle. As per the brand’s internal testing, the M9 has a range of 548km on a single charge.

The M9 takes 90 minutes to charge using a 160kW DC fast charger. With an 11kW AC charger, which can be installed at home or office, a 0-100 percent charge takes about 10 hours. Being an MG EV, the M9 will also benefit from the carmaker’s network of public fast-charging stations, which can be located via the eHUB app.

MG M9 interior features

A combination of leather and suede, finished in cognac brown, has been used for the interior of the M9. Digital appointments at the front comprise a 12.23-inch touchscreen and a 7-inch driver’s display serving respective entertainment and instrumentation duties. The former display is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and is wired to a JBL sound system. Other highlights include electrically adjustable, heated, ventilated and massage-enabled driver and passenger seats, a wireless charger, a single-pane sunroof, drive modes, a digital IRVM, and a PM 2.5 air filter.

MG M9 second row seats

Coming to the most important second row, the captain’s chairs (Presidential seats in MG speak) also offer massage, ventilation and heating functions, but they add fold-out ottomans for extra comfort. Notably, all of the above-mentioned features can be easily accessed via touchscreens on the headrests of each seat. The kerb-side front passenger seat can be moved forward to open up more room at the back with the boss mode. For those being chauffeured here, MG has installed a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and manual window shades. As for the rear entertainment screens, they are likely going to be optional extras.

MG M9 last row seats

Lastly, the third row can seat three passengers and comes with AC vents and USB-A connectivity. The M9 is also compatible with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging. Boot space is up to 945 litres; there’s a 55-litre frunk, too.

Up front, it gets a trapezoidal grille flanked by LED headlights. Above these sit connected DRLs, completing the split-light arrangement. The M9 rides on 19-inch alloy wheels wearing self-healing Continental ContiSeal tyres. Notably, the rear doors are electrically assisted and slide open. Its rear section is marked by an electrically operated tailgate, connected tail-lights, a wiper and a roof spoiler with an integrated stop lamp.
