2026 Mercedes C-Class facelift

Mercedes-Benz has introduced a thorough facelift for the C-Class sedan and estate for 2026 and beyond. This is the first major update for the fifth-gen C-Class, which debuted in 2021. As part of the update, the C-Class gets significantly revised styling inspired by the likes of the larger S-Class, a longer list of features and an upgraded set of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Prices for the 2026 Mercedes-Benz C-Class start at 41,045 euros (Rs 45.43 lakh) in Germany.

Every engine option for the 2026 C-Class is now compliant with Euro 7 emission norms, and a 9-speed automatic gearbox and 48V mild-hybrid system continue to be standard fit. However, the latter features a new integrated starter generator (ISG) delivering a boost of up to 23hp and 205Nm. The pure-petrol C-Class is available in three variants, namely C 200, C 250 and C 300, all of which are powered by the ‘M 254 EVO’ 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo-petrol mill.

This engine gets a new electric auxiliary compressor to mitigate turbo lag and develops 177hp and 270Nm in C 200 spec, 218hp and 320Nm in C 250 guise, and 258hp and 400Nm in the C 300 variant. The C 250 version can even be had with Mercedes-Benz’s 4Matic AWD system. Notably, the current India-spec C-Class C 200 sedan is powered by a 204hp 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, but Mercedes-Benz did not make any mention of this motor for the 2026 facelift.

As for the diesel-powered C-Class, it comes with the ‘OM 654 EVO’ 2.0-litre 4-cylinder mill in two states of tune: 163hp and 380Nm (C 200d), and 200hp and 440Nm (C 250d). Here, the turbocharger and common-rail direct-injection system have been optimised, and this engine is even compatible with HVO100, B10 and B20 biofuels. The C 250d variant is also available with AWD.

Certain global markets also get C 300e and C 400e plug-in hybrid variants of the 2026 C-Class facelift, which combine the updated M 254 EVO engine, a 19.53kWh battery pack and an electric motor for a net output of up to 395hp and 650Nm. The C-Class PHEV also delivers a WLTP-rated electric range of 100km and can be charged at up to 11kW AC and up to 55kW DC. The C 300e comes in both RWD and AWD guises, while the C 400e is available only with AWD.

On the dynamics front, Mercedes-Benz has retuned the C-Class’s suspension as part of the update. The stiffer setup and tweaked damping are touted to favour agility and driving pleasure, reduce body movements and respond more precisely to driver inputs. All-wheel steering remains available as an optional extra and steers the rear wheels by up to 2.5 degrees in either the opposite (below 100kph) or the same direction (above 100kph) as the front wheels.

Much of the styling revisions to the updated C-Class are concentrated up front. Like many of Mercedes-Benz’s newer offerings, the C-Class gets reshaped LED headlamps that incorporate three-pointed-star daytime running lamps (DRLs), which flank a larger grille housing a big Mercedes-Benz emblem (illuminated in some markets), chromed star patterns and an illuminated surround. The headlamps and grille are connected via a gloss-black trim, and the bumper has been redesigned with enclosed air intakes.

Over to the side, the only notable changes are the inclusion of cameras in the outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) and new alloy-wheel designs. The 2026 C-Class comes with 17-inch alloys as standard, which can be optioned up to 19 inches. Similarly, the rear end remains unchanged aside from three-pointed-star DRL signatures in the sedan’s tail-lamps. Oddly, the C-Class estate’s tail-lamps do not get these DRL patterns.

In addition to the aforementioned cosmetic updates, the 2026 C-Class facelift packs projectors in the side sills and ORVMs that display the Mercedes-Benz logo. Two new exterior colour options are also on offer, namely Lavender Silver Metallic and Sky Grey Metallic.

The interior layout of the 2026 C-Class remains largely unchanged from that of the outgoing model. Unlike many of its new models, Mercedes-Benz has resisted the urge to add a passenger screen in the C-Class, instead continuing with the same 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and an 11.9-inch portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen. Both displays do, however, run the latest version of the MB.OS software, which brings over-the-air updates and a new virtual assistant that uses ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Microsoft Bing AI.

A welcome update here is the new three-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel, which houses a plethora of physical controls. The 2026 C-Class also gets two new interior upholstery colours – warm beech brown and cherry red – as well as fresh trim options, namely light open-pore birch wood, anthracite birch wood and high-gloss silver metal mixed fabric. Mercedes-Benz has even improved cabin refinement with aerodynamic tweaks (redesigned ORVMs, extra windscreen seal) and extra insulation.

As for features, the 2026 C-Class includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 64-colour ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, Level 2 ADAS, a head-up display with an augmented-reality navigation system, connected car tech and more. Boot space is rated at 455 litres for the C-Class sedan and 490 litres for the estate. In the PHEV versions, the boot space drops to 315 litres and 360 litres, respectively, due to the placement of the battery pack.
