Mercedes-Benz has produced a longer version of its C-class for the Chinese market and revealed the new model at the Beijing motor show.

Due to demand, the C-class L (as the China variant it is called) is 80mm longer than its regular sibling so as to provide rear passengers with more legroom. Occupants in the back can also electronically control the front passenger seat to free up more space.

The car's powertrain includes the same choice of engines that are offered with the regular car. The latest C-class is offered with 48v electric architecture with a belt driven alternator to provide a mild hybrid boost to performance and efficiency.

Mercedes’ new C-class L is one of several long-wheelbase models to be launched in Beijing to cater to the unique preference of their Chinese customer base for more rear legroom. The carmaker also unveiled the A-class L sedan at the motor show.

In India, Mercedes sells the E-Class L in both petrol and diesel engine options.
