Lotus has launched its second electric car, the Emeya, in India, with ex-showroom prices starting at Rs 2.34 crore for the base Standard variant. The Emeya sits below the Eletre SUV and is a part of the Geely-owned firm’s plan to go all-electric by 2028. Lotus has yet to reveal prices for the S and R variants.

  1. Emeya is the first electric grand tourer from Lotus
  2. Gets 102kWh battery with up to 610km of WLTP range
  3. India-spec Emeya available in six colours

Lotus Emeya performance, battery, range

Dual motors for AWD are standard on all three variants of the Emeya: standard, S and R. The front and rear motors on the Standard and S are good for 600hp and 710Nm; the sprint time from 0-100kph is 4.2 seconds and the top speed is 250kph. The range-topping Emeya R is the most powerful with 905hp and 985Nm. It goes from 0-100kph in 2.8 seconds and maxes out at 256kph.

All three get a 102kWh lithium-ion battery pack and have an 800V architecture. With a 350kW DC fast charger, the battery can be topped up from 10-80 percent in 18 minutes. Charging via a 22kWh AC wall charger takes 5.5 hours. The car’s WLTP range is 610km for the standard variant, 540km for the S and 435km for the R; these only apply when sticking to the default 20-inch wheels.

Lotus Emeya dimensions, design

Sitting on a 3,069mm wheelbase, the electric GT is 5,139mm long and 2,005mm wide, while the height ranges between 1,459mm and 1,467mm. That makes the Emeya larger than the Porsche Taycan, its closest rival.

Focusing on the front profile, it doesn’t have a long bonnet, as seen in combustion-engined GT cars. Instead, a short front section merges into a high-deck tail. The headlights are housed in the bumper and there are four LED daytime running lights, two on each side, placed above them. Further, the vents in the bumper get active-aero technology, enabling them to alter their aperture for airflow and cooling. During our review of the Emeya, we could also spot an air curtain that drops down from the base of the bumper on the go.

Wheel arches on the side frame the 20 (standard)-22 inch alloy well, and carbon fibre elements come courtesy of the brand’s racing heritage. Flush-type door handles help in aerodynamic efficiency as well. Its sloping roofline melds with the rear spoiler, which is even bigger than the Eletre SUV’s and opens in three stages, and it gets a horizontal light bar. The drag coefficient is a claimed 0.21 with the standard wheels.

Lotus offers six colour options for the Emeya in India – Boreal Grey, Fireglow Orange, Solar Yellow, Akoya White, Stellar Black and Kaimu Grey.

The Emeya’s dashboard is borrowed from the Eletre, but the use of different lighting and materials makes it stand apart. There’s a generous use of Alcantara and leather, besides knurled metal on all touchpoints. Buyers will also have the option of going for vegan upholstery. The seats come with five massage modes, there's a 55-inch HUD, and a KEF audio system with Uni-Q speakers, a Uni-Core subwoofer and Dolby Atmos 3D surround sound.

Behind the octagonal steering wheel is an 8-inch driver’s display. The 15.1-inch central touchscreen is home to many controls, including controlling the direction of the AC vents, and the co-passenger gets a small screen right above the glove box. The Emeya also gets an electrochromic glass roof that can switch from opaque to transparent. Being an EV, the performance car offers a 31-litre frunk and a 509-litre boot. It also has a 360-degree camera and a Level 4-capable (hands and eyes off the road) Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite when regulations allow.
