Hyundai continues to drip-feed more details about the Creta Electric, which is set for a January 17 launch and will rival the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6 and MG ZS EV. The Korean automaker has confirmed several features and revealed what the upcoming car’s interior will look like, the power figures for both battery pack options, and a few more details.

  1. Hyundai Creta Electric shares most interior bits with standard SUV
  2. It also shares most features other than EV-specific kit with the Creta
  3. 51.4kWh battery powers 171hp motor; 42kWh battery powers 135hp motor

The images released by Hyundai show that the Creta Electric shares its dashboard, twin 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation and most of its features – from the dual-zone climate control and Level 2 ADAS suite to the auto-dimming interior rearview mirror and 8-speaker Bose audio system – with its petrol and diesel counterparts.

Differences come in the form of a new steering wheel unit and a new centre console. As the Creta Electric features a shift-by-wire system accessible via a control stalk on the steering column’s right side, the centre console now only features cup holders, buttons for the electronic parking brake and auto-hold function, and drive modes.

Other feature highlights of the Creta Electric, at least its top-spec Excellence variant, include in-car payment for charging the EV, a digital key that allows the owner to use their smartphone to unlock/lock the car, single-pedal driving, vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging capabilities (with a dedicated plug below the rear bench), voice commands for the infotainment system and Hyundai’s Bluelink in-car connectivity tech.

The Creta Electric has a Level 2 ADAS suite, which includes lane keep assist, forward collision warning and blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and more. It will also sport rear disc brakes, six airbags, hill-start and descent assist, ESC, tyre pressure monitoring and ISOFIX anchors. As reported earlier, the Creta Electric will also pack 360-degree cameras, rain-sensing wipers and front parking sensors.

Hyundai Creta Electric power figures

Previously, Hyundai mentioned that the Creta Electric would be available with two battery pack options – 42kWh with 390km of MIDC range and 51.4kWh with 473km range. The automaker has now announced that the 42kWh battery will power a front axle-mounted 135hp motor, and the 51.4kWh battery will power a 171hp motor. It claims a 0-100kph time of 7.9 seconds for the Long Range version, which has the 51.4kWh battery pack.

Hyundai Creta Electric charging

As Hyundai had revealed earlier, an 11kW AC charger can top up the larger battery from 10-100 percent in just four hours, while a DC fast charger can charge it from 10-80 percent in a claimed 58 minutes. Hyundai says the myHyundai app can be used to access various remote charging functions, such as charging start/stop and schedule charging. The Creta Electric also features “Active Air Flaps”, which are said to help cool specific bits of the car while improving aerodynamic efficiency.
