Honda Motor Europe has introduced a new four-layered AC filter that can keep COVID-19 virus out of the vehicle’s cabin. The company says the air filter can capture and inactivate almost 100 percent of the viral load.

  • New Honda cabin filter uses four layers of material
  • Fourth layer uses fruit extract to capture virus particles
  • Honda City hybrid expected to launch in India in the coming months

Honda’s new cabin filter: what’s new?

Honda’s new cabin air filter has four layers of material. The first two use micro fibres to trap fine particles like dust and pollen, the third has activated charcoal for further filtration, and finally, the fourth uses a fruit extract to capture the virus particles.

Additionally, Honda says increasing the amount of fresh air running through the cabin is a good way to protect against viruses inside the vehicle. This is because more air maximises the dilution of airborne aerosols. Also, Honda recommends changing the cabin air filter more often than usual to maintain optimum protection. The company has introduced this component in Europe only, as an alternative to the standard Honda pollen filter.

Apart from Honda, companies like Mercedes-Benz are readying an optional HEPA system for its upcoming EQS electric sedan, while popular electric brand Tesla has been offering HEPA filtration in some of its models since quite some time.
