Mahindra has commenced deliveries of the e-Verito sedan to Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) under the tender to supply electric vehicles for government use. The delivery of the first vehicle comes ahead of the November 30, 2017 deadline stipulated by EESL.

This is the world’s single largest procurement of EVs with a total of 10,000 cars – the first 500 vehicles in first phase and the rest in the second phase. Mahindra will supply 150 e-Veritos as a part of the first phase, while Tata Motors will supply 250 units of the electric Tigor. It can be recollected that Tata Motors won the tender by quoting the lowest price of Rs 11.2 lakh each (inclusive of GST), along with a comprehensive five-year warranty.

Mahindra later agreed to match the lowest bid price offered by Tata, by lowering its bid price by Rs 2.3 lakh per vehicle. Going ahead, Mahindra has the option to bid for up to 50 percent or 4,750 units of the remaining 9,500 vehicles in the second phase if it matches the price.

Today's delivery of the e-Verito was done by Mahesh Babu, CEO, Mahindra Electric as he handed over keys to Saurabh Kumar, MD of EESL in presence of Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Secretary, Ministry of Power and his team.
