BYD India has issued a voluntary recall to replace the high-voltage battery of the Seal, according to the brand’s service centre technicians. While the exact number of units recalled has not been disclosed yet, the brand has requested all BYD Seal customers in the country to have their cars checked by authorised technicians for a possible fault with the Seal’s Blade battery. Here is what we know about this issue so far.
- The issue is currently limited to the Seal
- Fault affects all variants and battery sizes of the electric sedan
BYD Seal battery recall
Some customers have already reported the recall online.

A possible issue pertaining to individual cells that make up the Seal’s battery pack means that the brand is now offering affected customers a free replacement. Those owning a BYD Seal are requested to book an appointment at an authorised service centre, preferably during weekdays (Monday to Friday).
Once at the service centre, technicians will perform an OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) check. If the scanner detects an issue with the Seal’s Blade Battery cells, the EV will have its entire battery pack replaced free of cost. In case an owner is unable to take their car to the service centre themselves, BYD India will dispatch authorised personnel to have the car picked up and driven to the concerned service centre.
The service representative Autocar spoke to told us that a customer can expect their car to be delivered to them the same day after the battery replacement. This battery recall does not affect any of the other models that the Chinese brand currently has on sale in the country. As for the BYD Seal, the electric sedan is offered with two battery pack options: 61.44kWh and 82.56kWh. It is available in Dynamic (Standard Range), Premium (Extended Range) and Performance (AWD) variants.
