After giving us a preview last week, BMW has launched the new M2 CS in India at Rs 1.66 crore (ex-showroom), before options. Only a few units have been allotted for India, and it comes here as a fully built import. The M2 CS is a more hardcore version of BMW’s baby M car – it’s lighter and more powerful, essentially making it better suited for track use. For reference, the standard M2 is priced at Rs 1.02 crore (ex-showroom), which means the CS is Rs 64 lakh more expensive than the car it is based on.

  1. M2 CS has a Nürburgring lap time of 7:25.5 minutes
  2. Is powered by a 530hp, 3.0-litre 6-cylinder twin-turbo engine
  3. It’s only the second CS-badged model to have come to India

Under the hood, the M2 CS carries over the 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine from the regular M2. However, it now gets reworked internals and stiffer engine mounts and produces 530hp and 650Nm; 50hp and 50Nm more than the regular M2. Incidentally, the specs are identical to the larger M4 Competition. 0-100kph comes up in a claimed 3.8 seconds, and flat out, it will go on to do a top speed of 302kph. The M2 CS is only available with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and in a rear-wheel-drive configuration; there's no manual, unlike the regular M2.

Compared to the standard M2, the new CS model is 30kg lighter, but it still isn’t particularly lightweight at 1,710kg. This comes courtesy of a new carbon-fibre boot lid and a carbon-fibre roof, along with carbon-fibre trimmings for the interior and exterior mirror caps. The M2 CS is also 8mm lower than the regular car, and it gets revised suspension with M-specific tuning for the springs, dampers and chassis control systems.

It will take a keen eye to spot the differences between the faces of the M2 CS and the regular M2, but this version has a slightly reworked grille that allows the engine to breathe better, and it also gets a new front splitter. It gets staggered 19-inch front and 20-inch rear forged alloy wheels finished in gold. As standard, they come wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, but one can also opt for track tyres as a no-cost option. The most distinctive element of the M2 CS’ styling is at the rear, with it’s massive integrated ducktail spoiler. The car also gets a more blown-out rear diffuser and new quad exhaust tips finished in matte black. The CS comes in four paint shades – Black Sapphire, Portimao Blue, Brooklyn Grey and Velvet Blue.

On the inside, the biggest update is the carbon-fibre bucket seats, wrapped in leather upholstery finished in signature M colours. It also gets a lot of carbon-fibre trim on the centre console, dashboard and door pads. There’s a new M-spec steering wheel too, finished in Alcantara, and creature comforts like a 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and a parking assistant. As standard, the interior is finished in black Merino leather upholstery.
